Thank you- we aren’t missing g scores as she took act . We just didn’t have the score u til after she applied, but they told us there was no turning back on the TO decision.
I uploaded mid year grades on feb 4 and haven’t heard you’re good.
I was hoping my SAT wouldn’t be taken into account because my math isn’t good enough to get into Arts and Sciences.
Thank you for the reassurance!
I thought test optional meant my scores would be ignored.
I am very confused about the test optional choice. It sounds like some people have submitted scores even after filling out the test optional form? Our score did not come back until mid December, and without knowing if she could take the test in October- she applied to McGill test optional. She was happy with her score and called but they said the TO form was final and they would not evaluate a score for her… at this point ready for review still so I honestly think it would help but we can’t send it. If any others have a different successful experience with this issue please share!
I submitted a score but then submitted a TO form after under service point’s advice since I didn’t have subject tests to report.
My son had the SAT I and SAT II Math scores before he applied in October, as well as 6 AP scores, some of which relevant to his major/department (SW Engineering). He put all these scores on his application and submitted it. I also sent the scores through the college board. Later, we were told that he needs to submit the TO form. The girl on ServicePoint told us that The AOs will still see and take into account the scores he did submit, but because he was missing the second subject test, he should submit the TO form. He did that in November. Yes, he did not have the second SAT 2 test (physics) but he has taken AP Physics C Mechanics and Electricity and Magnetism with 5s, and we absolutely wanted them to see that. All in all, based on his GPA and his available scores (SAT I, SAT 2 Math, APs), he was admitted in early January.
In your situation, you cannot change the application as it was submitted before your D had her scores. Maybe, you can send the ACT score directly from ACT to McGill. It should not hurt.
My sons have been accepted already. They submitted their ACT scores and no others and did not submit the TO form.
Wow. This has somehow managed to get more confusing! So, TO can mean 2 different things apparently— submitting no scores OR submitting some scores. I wish I knew that as my D could not take subject tests, but she could have sent the SAT.
I guess it depends on who you speak with at the admissions office?!? So, how many people applying test optional are not test optional, or have partial testing? My daughter is truly test optional, so is she at a disadvantage? Where I live, ACT and SAT tests are still being cancelled.
We submitted test optional , but were able to get a score after the McGill application was submitted -and they will not let us submit the score.
That’s extremely concerning. I listed an SAT score on my application, but after emailing service point, I wanted everything excluded. This is why I submitted the TO form. I’m really worried that I won’t get accepted into Arts and Science because my math section of the SAT was 30 below the cutoff. I thought it would be excluded once the form was submitted regardless of what was on my application.
On the Minerva checklist, it says form to exclude SAT/ACT, so I thought admissions would ignore it entirely. Otherwise, I’m quite worried.
I can understand your concern. It’s been an incredibly stressful year with SAT’s and ACT’s being postponed and canceled. I have friends drive hours away, stay at a hotel and not know until they get to the testing site that an exam was canceled. If you student manages to get to do an exam, it’s under a possibly stressful situation of wearing a mask for hours with the fear of contracting the virus, and it might be the only chance to do the exam. My DD had so many cancellations she broke down in tears.
I’m sure it is not easy for schools to evaluate kids this year, but it would be great if they could be more transparent about whether it’s truly test optional, so it’s an even playing field.
I understand your daughter’s anxiety, and I’m so sorry she had to go through that. I agree that it would alleviate so much stress to know whether submitting the form means everything is excluded or only some things. For my app, I hope it was the former.
Because my grades put me above the cutoffs, but I’m not sure if my SAT is being factored in and if that is what’s preventing a decision from being made, even though I submitted the TO form.
My son got offers from Desautels as well as from Arts faculty. Desautels fees is twice as much as Arts for the same degree. Any idea what is the difference between these faculties and how do you benefit from studying at Desautels?
Congratulations. My son got the same.
What does he want to study?
