McGill University Class of 2012/2013

Hello all! I realize that the admission deadline for the winter semester (September 2012) is in a couple days and I wanted all of us to gather to share our information and congratulate those who were accepted and send encouraging messages to those who were not.
I applied with these stats:

ACT: 28
10-12 G.P.A: 3.79
Weighted: 4.15

I am a Canadian, but was educated in the States. What about you guys?

*This is also in College Admissions Forum, as I didn't realize there was a McGill forum...

The admission deadline is February 1 is it not? And I thought that they sent you an acceptance letter sometime in March. But people have already been accepted?

The admissions deadline is actually January 15 for those who are applying from U.S. high schools. I applied with a 3.8 unweighted GPA (cumulative 9-12) and a 2350 SAT I (760 CR, 800 M, 790 W). My standardized test scores are definitely the high points of my application. I have a feeling they’re going to start reviewing apps this coming Monday, as it will be the first day after the deadline.

Yeah I’m talking about Canadians living outside of Quebec and Ontario  And also…

1) Do we send marks when we apply?

2) When do they tell us if we’re in or not?

calgirl15, nice marks! Admission only requires 10-12 grades though… I met with a McGill rep and that as what she stated as well as the view book I believe and the website. But that’s awesome! And, IWannaGo2McGill, some people have said they didn’t submit their scores and were accepted with the condition that their scores were up to par, but I sent everything anyway. For Canadians from Ontario decisions are released March 1st through April 15th. Other Canadians it is February 1st-25th

Do you think my application would be hampered if I graduated last semester and I am only taking community college courses? I finished my first semester 4.0 unweighted, but those are my last marks :/

Small nitpick, but it could confuse people.

September-December is the Fall semester. January (Winter semester) applications are usually discouraged and limited.

Ill be there, currently on my gap year with a deferred offer for fall 2012.

Applied! Faculty of Science, Faculty of Arts
3.4 uw, 3.97 w
33 on the acts
2160 sats (780 cr, 760 math, 620 writing)
780 math II, 670 physics b, 690 lit
5 on bc calc, 3 on physics b
AP Chem/English/Stats this year
B+ in Harvard summer school: Neurobiology, Psychology of Addiction and Tufts Health Science Honors
So nervous! I’m really hoping for arts

Management and Arts
3.7 uw 4.3 w
31 act
5 on calc ab, english lang, us history, euro history
i got b’s in pre calc and calc but I’m hoping the 5 on the test makes up for it because my teachers were insanely hard, so i hope that doesn’t mess my chances up
I really want to be accepted at Management do you think being from Kansas will help?

My apologies! I hope I don’t confuse anyone about the winter semester vs. fall semester.

camsmith93 and gaga1994, here’s hoping to an acceptance letter! I’m so nervous, McGill is my #1 and I hope for both Management and Arts. camsmith93, I don’t know if being from the United States helps or distracts from admission, it’s all about the grades. I don’t know if a B in Pre Cal will matter with the Arts, maybe Management though? I don’t exactly know much about the Management faculty.

My status on Minerva just changed to “Further Review Required”, and an admissions officer from McGill actually emailed me to ask about one of my AP scores! Looks like they’re starting early this year. Hopefully I’ll hear good news soon.

Very exciting calgirl! What was your status before the change, and if you don’t mind my asking, what were they asking about AP scores? I listed my AP scores on my application, but didn’t actually send scores since I didn’t think they were considered for admission, just credit.

Hope you get good news soon!

My status just went from “Ready For Review” to “Further Review Required”. The admissions officer was asking me what my Calc BC score was. I took the exam but later had to cancel the score for a number of reasons (retaking in May!).

Thanks for the quick reply calgirl15! My status is also ‘ready for review’ so hoping I get some word soon as well.

I am not sure why they need to further review with calgirl15 stat unless she applied for scholarship???

^ That’s probably it. I applied for the Major Scholarship :P

Yes that makes sense. Best of luck.

I am an international student applying to McGill. I hope I can get accepted.
SAT: 2220(CR800 MA760 WR660)
SAT subject test (Math level 2 800, Physics 800)
No APs and we do not calculate GPA

Btw, my status also turned to “Further Review Required” yesterday and I think this is Minerva’s “natural course”—Ready for review- Further Review Required - Reviewed-Decision Pending- Decision

Everyone will get this status sooner or later~
Wish everybody good luck!

After reading this thread I asked my D to check her admission status and it has changed to “further review required” and a row appeared on her checklist for midyear grades. Review of files is underway…
