Top student, graduated full IB diploma, interested in economics/finance/international business.
Admitted directly into Carlson school.
But considering McGill...any thoughts? experience?

Both fine programs.

What’s the difference in cost? What’s the difference between credits applied at each school?

That should help decide between them.

If you are Canadian, then Mcgill.
If you are from US, then Mcgill too, unless you are in U of Minnesota Honors, which then leads to more in-depth consideration.

You can’t get more international than Mcgill, so you can’t go wrong with the International Business there. Even if you don’t major in Int.Bus. per se, it’s pretty much understood that Mcgill is a very international culture-filled experience.

Also, Finance as a career is known to only be effective if you attend a renowned university, and U of Minn doesn’t really fall in that category. And, though Mcgill’s Desautels (Commerce) department isn’t considered ‘the best’, it’s still one of the top in Canada and definitely does open doors for dedicated Finance-career aspirants.

I was accepted into both U of Minn (Carlson) and Mcgill (Desautels), but have decided for Mcgill. U of Minn’s low tuition, location, and fairly good program were attractive, but I concluded Mcgill was better quality for the buck.

Good Luck deciding and never look back.
