Hey guys,

I was both accepted at McGill BA (probably gonna take Political Science) and Sciences Po Paris and I REALLY don't know which one to choose. Which one has better international recognition??

I'd like to go to Law School (Columbia, Stanford) afterwards: which one would you advise is better? In which would I get higher grades?

Sorry for all the questions, I just REALLY REALLY don't know which one to choose and I don't want to make an error.

Thank you for your help!

I went to sci-po Paris (and do not know enough to compare it to McGill academically).

Regarding sci-po, it would provide an advantage only if the school you are applying to has someone in admissions who knows about it, and it is less well known by a long shot than McGill in N America.

The curriculum at sci-po is rather tightly controlled, it is not like going to an undergrad school in N America. There is little choice in what you can study and certain basics must be covered (and known). It is heavily based on memorization and verbal dexterity (I was once downgraded because I didn’t know the city (Panmunjom) where negotiations to end the Korean War took place, but now I will never forget it!). If you figure out the system - what books to read, what level of detail to master, the right presentation of yourself to faculty and examiners - it is not that hard to do well. The student body, while elitist, is very fun, and you have Paris at your fingertips.

Hi alcibiade,

Thank you so much for your answer! I think I will choose McGill, as International Recognition in N. A. is key for what I wish to do afterwards.

Thank you!

You’re welcome. I would hope to learn how you like it as my son is probably going to apply there. Best of luck.

I will be more than happy to share my first experiences with you, but by private email seems a better idea.
