Would you consider McGill a prestigious university? Does it have a good reputation?
yes and yes
It’s well known worldwide.
Absolutely!
Yes, it’s terrific. We visited a few years ago. It is a very urban campus, if that appeals. Area around it is essentially a nice downtown area with lots to do. All the neighborhood restaurants and shops were bilingual French/English, as you might expect. You’d probably be living in an apartment and not a dorm.
If you are a sophomore and want an international experience that is free, check out the United World Colleges. They are two-year IB schools, and if you are a high school sophomore you could apply next year and go for senior and a fifth year (many US students do this, including mine). There are more than a dozen around the world, including one in the US. They are outstanding schools, and US students are fully funded by Davis scholarships. You actually apply for the scholarship and then pref the schools and are assigned to one, possibly the US school, but with 75% international students. One of mine attended, had an amazing experience, and now has friends all over the world.
The original one is in Wales and is literally in a medieval castle. Many of the others have stunning campuses.
Note: admissions is based on academics but also very much on how a student’s worldview and attitude aligns with the school’s mission. Here’s the website (the mission statement is right on the homepage):
I actually looked into those schools but missed the application deadline for next year. I might try to go senior year, though. I heard is very hard to get into.
Yes. It is the most well-known Canadian university and among the most well-known in North America (comparable probably to U.S. universities along the caliber of U of Michigan, NYU, Boston College, Tufts, UCLA, etc.) It is a very good school with a very good international reputation, especially in the U.S.
