How is McGill University's business program? Is it known and respected by ibanking firms, or other corporations, including the US? Does it provide good job opportunites after undergrad?

if lazard recruits at McGill, it's pretty good.

hahaha I love how all the universities listed on Lazard's list have their actual full name (University of Virginia instead of McIntire School of Commerce), but UPenn just says "The Wharton School."

Does anyone know what it is like at McGill? Compared to other universities in the US?

housing is basically only for first year students...it's respected outside of Canada b/c it is consistently ranked as the #1 university up there, and if it were ranked with U.S. schools it'd probably be in the low to mid 30s. Pretty good overall and Canadian schools are cheap. They also show a student's sense of exploration and interest in the world outside of the U.S.

Can you think of any universities in the US to compare it to, not necessarily academics, but student/campus life, school unity, etc.?

nope sorry...i've just started researching it myself for possible transfer

i do know that canadian universities basically ONLY look at grades, and the cut off isn't horribly high, so don't expect the most brilliant or passionate students all the way around. It's a smaller university and most people live in private housing nearby...maybe some1 else can help us both.

joexc07 dont listen to some of the above posters, you're gonna need some canadian input on this.
"if lazard recruits at McGill, it's pretty good."
Its funny how everyone in the states automatically think McGill is the best Canadian school because of Lazard. yeah Lazard said they recruit at McGill, but the main reason why is that they have a Canadian branch in Montreal which is where McGill is,so they may recruit from them time to time. Also, McGIll as a whole has been clinging on to a Past reputation as "Harvard of the North".

"Does anyone know what it is like at McGill? Compared to other universities in the US?"
its been going downhill over recent years and there undergrad business program is not considered tier 1 in Canada (Queens,Ivey,Schulich) and is no where near the same level as top American schools such as Wharton, haas or Stern.

"i do know that canadian universities basically ONLY look at grades"
This isn't true for top bus. programs in Can. but it is true for McGill management. They only consider your grades.

Bottom line, if you wanna study in Canada its a possible choice but if you have university offers from other top american schools choose them over McGIll.

Regardless of what anyone says about McGill's current reputation or educational quality, it DOES attract the best recruiters of any school in Canada. And if you're going into business, that's all that really matters.
