haha

Wow, if you're worried, I should be paralyzed with fear.

haha

well there are a couple of girls from my school applying with better grades...so=/

doesnt matter, mcgill is a public uni, unlike ivies who have limited enrollment..

since im in a british system i cant really compare my stats to u but if it helps, ive also applied to bcomm management and got accepted last month.

GCSE Ordinary level 4A 2B 2C
GCSE Advance Subsidiary Level 1A 3B
GCSE Advance Levels (predicted) 4A (june 2005)
highschool gpa 3.5

v.good ecs

regards

mcgill didn't ask for any ec's....atleast on the online app they didnt have any place for ec's. did i miss something?

ya they didn't need ec's or anything. i applied for major scholarship and i think that was the only case where u had to give them a copy of ur resume

How exactly do I calculate my GPA? I have an 88 average. For Junior and Senior years my average is more like a 91-92, though. Some schools factor in these years more heavily. Does McGill?

Also, just for the hell of it, I'll throw in my stats and ask what you think my chances of getting in are:

SAT: 1410 (730 verbal, 680 math). SAT II's: Writing 690, MathIC 680, USHist 590 (whoops!).

I'm applying to Arts and Sciences.

Oh, last question (I know, it's a lot): I sent in recommendations and an essay, even though I hear it doesn't matter. Will McGill take this into account at all?

arts and sciences probably will be competitive for this year. Your average is good for junior and senior years, though a bit low overall. Your high SAT score however will help you :)

^^how do u think the engineering admissions will be for US studs?

is mcgill better or uni of western ontario?

well i deciding between Mcgill and western ontario

Mcgill has a better repuation and more diversity
but if u plan on going to grad skool it will be easier to get good grades in western ontario
western is also a party skool, much more than Mcgill beause apprently ppl have so much free time

are u saying that from first hand experience or heard from some one else?
coz this very imp.. my parents want me to go to a LESS PARTY school... and theyve to decide b/w mcgill and uwo..

and in their minds mcgill is the ultimate party place..

please elaborate
thanks, appreciate it

well i dont really have any first hand experience but i have done a lot of research concerning these two skools because i have to choose between them by april 29.

the things i know r based on accounts of various ppl i know who go there, forums like these and old skool friends who go there.

i can tell u certainly that the the acdemics is western is not as hard in Mcgill and the people are more outgoing. they have a really infamous dorm (saugeen or something) which is know for its partying. The skool also has a kind of party skool reputation in canada. I would say western is much more of a party skool than Mcgill.

u should check this forum called www.studentawards.com

there are lots of people from ontario posting there and most of them are planning on going to western..so might learn a lot more from them

Western has the party school rep, from what I've heard. McGill students tend to be friday night partiers (actually to be totally honest, thursday night is the best party night. But that's a whole different subject).

Both are good schools. Academically and reputation wise, I'd give the edge to Mcgill except in Business where the two are pretty equal. You couldn't go wrong with either of them. Given the choice I'd take McGill because UWO isn't really recognized much in the states or outside of Canada the way Mcgill is (unless of course you're a canadian, at which this whole argument is moot).

I actually spoke to my guidance cousellor yesturday about McGill and UWO because I got accepted into Ivey at Western and he told me that I should go to McGill because Western is most definately known as a huge party school and marks are really inflated. Apparently, everyone is aware that their marks are inflated and thus, people (i.e. admissions officers for grad school) devalue the grades given at Western. Ivey is definately a great program, especially because they're sort of segregated from the rest of the school in some ways, but I don't think that the first two years at Western will be worth it. McGill definately has a bigger reputation overall. If you're parents want you to go to the least party..school (excuse the grammar), then definately go to McGill. Ironically though, I think it would be more fun and interesting at McGill. Western's campus is comparatively far from downtown so I don't know how they managed to get such a big party rep. I would say pick McGill. Hands down.

bittersweet...if i were u i would certainly go to western since u got accepted into ivey AEO program (u can only enter ivey in year 3). Despite western's reputation, richard ivey business skool has a big reputation internationally. The richard ivey business is extremely hard (3rd and 4rt years) unlike the rest of western's programs. It is definately much better than Mcgill management. In canada it is considered one of the best programs along with queens commerce. I am sure ur well aware of this living in toranto.

There is a lot of job recruitment in richard ivey and your job oppourtunities will be much better than at mcgill.

furthermore western has a lot of skool spirt, there is real sense of community and just like Mcgill everyone is extremely happy to be there. I wouldn't say Mcgill is far better. Mcgill has a better reputation and montreal is much better city.

I just got accepted to McGill today and I'm really excited. I know Ivey has a great program, and if it started in year 1 I would hesitate little before deciding to go. However, I'm the type of person who needs a constant challenge or I will fall into a rut. I don't think many people actually hate their schools. Very few people do, actually. But when I walked into Montreal and McGill's campus, I fell in love. I've been to London, Ontario several times and I've been to the Richard Ivey building, and I didn't get the same sparks. They could be biased, I don't know, but that was my immediate reaction. I do realize that Ivey and Queens have better management programs than McGill, but McGill as a school has a great reputation and I love atmosphere. There are many downsides to Mcgill, but none of them have managed to wane my excitement for the prospect of attending McGill. Besides, I took high school french for four years and would very much like to put it to use and perhaps become fluent in it. My ultimate goal is to get to Wall Street or Chicago, and I do believe that McGill's reputation in the states will help me get there. Besides, undergrad is undergrad. I'll do a post grad and then we'll see where I go.

hmm...well best of luck to you

I am still facing a dilemma of deciding between Mcgill and western

damn i didnt kno so many ppl are facing the same confusion b/w mcgill and uwo like me :S!!!

one little question: I got into UWO BAcs program, NOT IVEY, i plan to apply to ivey in end of 2nd year.. i want to know how HARD it is to get into ivey from western..
and how good is the diploma in acc program at uwo..
coz i plan to do CA in future

thanks, and a very informative discussion going on here, thanks to everyone for posting thier point of views

getting into ivey is extremely hard in yr 3 caz most of the seats are already taken by the people in the AEO (ppl accepted from high skool). u also get ppl applying from other universites as well to get into ivy so it is really competative as its one of the best programs in canada.

the ACS is pretty useless, i personally wouldnt risk it. if u dont get into ivey then business at western isnt very good at all

since u want to go into accounting..the best skool would be waterloo, queens or york but i think its too late to apply now.

to be considered for ivey u need to maintain a grade higher than 80% (4.0 or A average), even then ur admission is not gaureented. If ur condident u can do well in the first 2 yrs of university pick western otherwise i would go to Mcgill...the program isnt that bad.

i am also planning to applying to ivey if i go to western for the HBsc + HBA program (combines science and business) but i want to major in biochemistry anyway so i have no problem if i get rejected as i plan on going to grad skool anway to get a MSc.

thanks for ure reply..

ive already applied to schulich and im waiting for their decision..

im going to research more about ivey, and then decide

alot depends on if i get into schulich, if i do ill go tehre without doubts!

when will schulich decide :S?? any idea
