I better get the scholarship if I go...
I only applied for the academic one, worth 3000.

btw My stats are:
1600
800,800,780,760

Aps: 3 fives

Speak 3 languages.

Ranked top 1-2 % out of 300 of an excellent PA public school.
I'm too lazy to list ECs, but they're mainly varsity sports. I'm one of the top runners of our conference.

I'm still not sure what I want to do later on...so many choices.

wait...when do you apply for scholarships? do they send you an app. in the mail?

u apply for it online, its part of the app I think.

Consideration for scholarships is part of the applications. it's a section on the form

and i apologize for my absense..combination of finals, travelling, and connecting with family back at home has taken a huge chunk out of my computer time ;)

I'd love to go to McGill but i'm not sure if my stats are high enough. I'm applying in Arts/Sciences Faculty for Linguistics i think:

-Iranian living in CA
-SAT I: 1380
-SAT 2: French: 720/ Math: 720/ Writing: 670
-GPA: 3.2/3.6W
-I speak 4 languages and have taken 5 years of language in HS.
-5 AP's/5 Honors w/ 4,5 on all AP tests and the rest are all advanced courses.

What do you think my chances are?

the only thing that's iffy about your stats is your GPA. However with the rest of your stats, especially applying for arts, I'd say you have a good shot.

blah, waiting sucks

Hapgirl : 1300 , 800 French, 800 Spanish, 800 Italian , 700 writing 89% IB Diploma applying School of Arts....Chances?? Many thanks. (dual citizen French/US)

yes, waiting does suck. now i'm waiting on exam scores...not as crucial as your guys' college admittance letters and stuff, but still, i suck at waiting. haha

dfasdfasasdfasdfadsf

What about Concordia?
Can anybody tell me everything they know about Concordia?

its a school on montreal, not as prestigius, but still good, im not sure what the grade situation is, meaning how hard it is to get in, but i dont think its as selective as mcgill. its more artsy and into humaniities, but you can take classes at mcgill and vice versa

how well reputed is McGill? How does it fair in the United States? In the world for that matter? Is McGill a respected name?

Is it easy to go to graduate school from McGill? Specifically in the U.S., such as Business schools or law schools? Is it well respected in that circle?

I have a lot of question regarding McGill University and I know this is where to get this kind of information, so could you guys please help me out!

I'm sorry for so many, but even if you have the answer to any of them..just post a reply.

Thx

Ranking lists are probably not worth the photons they are displayed with, but here's 2 worldwide lists:

Maybe the good news is that McGill at least does appear on them.

Some college guide books include Canadian schools. Fiske ranks McGill a 4 out of 5 academically. The 5's are Ivies, Cal Tech, Amherst, and the like. Other 4's are Georgetown, Holy Cross, Carnegie Mellon. www.princetonreview.com also gives each school a rating of 1 to 100; they have McGill at 75.

McGill is the best-known Canadian school in the US; probably because few "Americans" could name another Canadian university. The Canadian magazine, MacCleans, consistently ranks McGill in the top 5 in Canada. I have been hearing that McGill has dropped in quality since the 1980's due to budget problems.

Of course, quality does depend on the program. Some are very large; some departments are small and can be more personal.

You mention law school and business school. Apparently it is far more difficult (and rare) to get high grades in a Canadian college than in most US colleges. You should consider this for any type of grad school which will be using GPA as the primary entrance requirement. You should investigate which graduate schools recent McGill grads have been accepted at in the area you are interested in.

You might consider continuing this thread in a new discussion topic so it's easier to find later.

k thx a lot for all the information..i'll start a new thread for this

I gave some info in the other thread :)

Concordia: A much more "artsy" type school than McGill. They are a good choice if you're considering the performing arts (with the exception of music, which McGill has the stronger program in), such as photography, film, painting, etc. They are not very selective and don't have a terribly strong reputiation in things like economics or sciences. It's largely a commuter school--only one residence and that's not even on the main downtown campus. It has a less "defined" campus than McGill--I drove by it on my way to Dorval and noticed that the Concordia buildings are really intermixed with the downtown buildings. They have another campus, though, the Loyola campus, which I presume is less "cityish" than the downtown one. Their sports team is called the Hornets, I think, or somehing like that. The only reason I know that is because of some McGill fight song that ends with "F*** you bumblebees" haha....ahhh sport rivalries.

www.concordia.ca probably has more information than I do, though ;)

noelle
