I have been working from the book mentioned in the title, but I am having a hard time with the way it explains answers. I am getting ready to go get a new book to prepare me for the maths section, but if someone has a very, very good opinion on what this particular book teaches, I'll willing to stick it out and just have someone explain the answers to me.

So, before I ditch this prep book: any particular reason I should stick with it?

I currently got the Barrons Math Workbook for the New SAT. I really like the way it presents the strategies and I always understand the way it explains it.

First of all MCGraw Hill's book u've mentioned seems promising and it does cover all the topics in an organized way but it's just that it doesn't go and explain them comprehensively. They don't even show a lot of examples, rather the whole book is covered w/ tons of practice questions and I don't think they have a great reputation w/ making SAT like questions, anyway I'd give this book a rating of 6.5 (out of 10) You may just want to put it aside and use it sometimes later as a reference or sth like that.
hope that helps :)
