McIntire-Info?

Hi, I'm a rising senior, and considering applying to UVA, and then applying to McIntire.

Is there anybody out there who's currently in the McIntire school? Do you like it? I'm considering other top business schools like UPenn, Notre Dame, Boston College, Cornell, NYU, etc... How does it compare?

I'm confused about the "Commerce" title. Are you taking econ classes? Management? Or something else?

How is UVA with accepting AP classes? I got 5's in Calc, English Lang, APUSH, and BIO this year, and plan on taking Stats, Physics, English Lit, Econ, and Gov next year.

Thanks!

Econ is a different department at UVA. Commerce is more Business - Finance, etc. Though if you want to do Financial Mathematics that is also a separate department. UVA is a pretty sizable school so you have the opportunity to do what you want.

If you get a 4 or a 5 UVA will probably accept the test and give you credit.

McIntire is one of the best schools, I know my mom who worked for Mobil for 20 years would specifically hire people from UVA over other schools (and this is a common trend in the DC area). So if you want to work in DC this is something to consider, though Darden the graduate school also has a presence maybe more competitive than McIntire so if you are getting an MBA then just know UVA is a top school for undergrad business.

If you do a search on the UVA website, you will find a list of AP scores and the credit you will get in each subject, along with your recommended course placement if you continue in the same subject. You can use APs to get out of a lot of College of Arts and Sciences distribution requirements, to accelerate, or to take a lighter course load some semesters.

you get a BS in commerce, but you can pick up to two out of six concentrations… marketing, finance, accounting, management, international business and information technology. they ask you for your anticipated concentrations after you get accepted into the comm school, but you can still change them around as a 3rd year. the classes 3rd year really integrate all the topics together… you get exposed to every topic before you take more specialized classes 2nd semester and as a 4th year. (they call the curriculum “ICE” on the website)…2nd semester of third year is very finance intensive

they also have two tracks in leadership and real estate you can apply to after your first year in the commerce school. just google “uva mcintire school of commerce”, click on the homepage and you’ll find all the info you’re looking for! hope that helps.

Thanks for all the info!
