If UVA capped 350 seats this year, there will be only 20-30 seats available for transferred students. Given 250 applicants, the yield is 8-12%. Good luck, folks!
Let’s crunch some numbers for fun – given 250 applicants, 52% will be rejected due to lack of credits, too much credits or not matched requisites (- 130) so the qualified pool will be 250-130=120. Assumed of 20% cutoff from 3.60 GPA and below, the pool gets smaller to 96 applicants. If you are one of those 96, your chance is 20-31%. BTW, the acceptance rate is available for internal UVA/McIntire wannabe, their acceptance is ~60% out of 547 applicants.
I think we also have to take into consideration where you are transferring from. I think that most of the people who are applying will be coming from CCs (this pool might make up more than half of the applicants). I know that McIntire has a preference towards these students and there is probably some quota that they have to meet. I have the impression that the admissions office will divide up the applicant pool into three different categories: Virginia CC students, in-state applicants applying from four year institutions, and out of state applicants. Lets say that they take 70% of the people from CCs and that they plan on taking 28 transfers in total. That would mean that they will take 20 students from CCs and 8 from other institutions. From the 8 people that they take from other institutions they may take 2 out of state applicants and 6 in state applicants. If we look at it this way, I think that each student has a different chance of getting in.
@McIntireguy123 … You could tell that I was tempting to introduce those 3 categories into my chance analysis as well; however, I did not because not only those 3 categories; there are other decidedly factors at play as well, e.g., first generation thru college, different kind of “political” appointments, etc … So, yes, I concur that different people will have a different chance.
I think that these three categories are probably the most important things to consider since UVA has policies to be biased towards in-state students and then to students who are from NOVA. I think that everything else, including first generation along with any other form of accommodations will be considered later after looking at the qualifications. Perhaps they can be the determining factor in picking students who have similar profiles. Are you applying for the Fall 2015 semester?
I transferred into McIntire last fall. They are getting more selective about transfer admissions. This year for my class there were only 25 students admitted (12% of all the applicants). If you have any questions about transferring to McIntire feel free to message me.
I have a place in Bice (on-grounds) housing for a male for 2015-2016 if anyone is interested. It’s a 1 minute walk to the comm school. you can actually see it from the apartment and there are usually a bunch of comm school students that live here.

What do you guys think? I’m freaking out. Good luck guys :)!
We have similar stats. I think that the Cs may put you back a bit and the W won’t help your case but the 3.7 in-major GPA should be good. Btw are you an officer in any of your clubs? I think that they will look for that. Also why only one rec? Message me if you want to talk further.
