<p>Hey guys! I am a current student at the George Washington University and I'm looking to transfer to another school with a higher quality business program. My father is a McIntire alum and my mother also attended UVa. I noticed that the mean GPA at McIntire was slightly higher than my GPA (3.8 vs. 3.72), but I was wondering if my other credentials give me a shot.</p>

School: George Washington University
GPA: 3.72
SAT: 1300
Relevant ECs: Summer Internship at major consulting firm; internship at lobbying firm on K street.
Legacy Status: Double legacy, father graduated from McIntire.</p>
<p>Given the stats on transfer applicants you should be fine. It’s really a question of how many transfers they take and whether or not not attending the VCCS will greatly affect your admissions decision. No way to know that unless you are on the inside. Comm school admissions can be somewhat unpredictable to say the least. I had a friend be told by Comm school that he had too many “quantitative” classes when he questioned his deferral. Note, this is a man who has a 3.9ish GPA, business aligned ECs and a solid strength of schedule. ANYWAY…never unless you try right? (It is probably also worth mentioning that Comm school defers most applicants after the first round of application review)</p>
<p>They are looking for students that also have liberal arts curriculum. I can’t find the article right now but an individual from a top firm in NYC stated he prefers McIntire students because they are critical thinkers and have a broader background than those strictly geared towards business. That’s why it is important for interested students to go to office hours, even transfer students, to make sure they are on track with their curriculum. </p>
<p>You seem like a strong candidate, however I would definitely meet with someone at McIntire with your transcripts and EC’s just to gather input from them. This summer might be a good time to do that, just call to confirm office hours for when you are going and make an appointment.</p>
<p>Also, have one of your parents call the alumni office and tell them about your interest in transferring. You may be able to meet with them too. This is for first year and transfer students of parents that are legacy. </p>
<p>…of course this raises the obvious question of why it is so ridiculously hard to get into the Com school. 3.8?? Good Lord, when I was a freshman (1984), no one worried about getting straight A’s to get in. I got in with a 3.5. and didn’t sweat it. Can they not expand the class size to make it less onerous? By time you find out you didn’t get in you can’t transfer, or you have to get in your transfer paperwork just in case??</p>
<p>UVA is a very different place then when I went there.</p>

<p>The second semester of second year was extremely stressful for most, if not all, pre-comm students. My friends and I were terribly anxious to know whether or not we would be granted admission to McIntire. In addition, it was somewhat annoying to know how many second-years were pre-comm (it appeared that every 9 out of 10 people I met first and second year were pre-comm).</p>
