McIntre Chances (Transfer)

I attend Thomas Nelson Community College and I am hoping to transfer to U.Va in Fall of 2012.

Right now I have a 3.73, but I am retaking the class that I received a C in (goofed up in an online class). So, hypothetically I'll have a 4.0.

Concrete:
Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society
Student Government Association Senator
Students in Free Enterprise
Honors Program; Honors Classes
3.73 GPA
1280 SAT
Currently taking 19 credits
Currently working 20-30 hours per week (at two jobs)
Letter of recommendation from VP of Academic Affairs

Hypothetical:
PTK Chapter VP of Membership/Treasurer (Fall 2011; applied)
SGA Treasurer (Fall 2011; applied/running)
SIFE
Honors credit for core classes (Accounting, Economics, Business)
Pre-requisites met (including Spanish)
Computer Programming course over summer
Intership at BayPort Credit Union over summer
4.0 GPA
1350+ SAT (retaking)
* Math subject tests
19 credits for Fall semester

Essentially, the concrete is what I have as of right now. The hypothetical is my plan. I am pretty certain on most of the hypothetical, but there are many things I have to consider. A. Whether or not I am accepted/win the admin positions (vp and treas), B. Whether or not I get the internship, C. Whether or not I maintain a 4.0, D. Whether or not I can break 1350 on my SAT.

Would these be useful?

So, in an ideal world, all of those are accomplished, what do you say my odds are? Any advice on other things I can do to improve my chances? I am dieing to get in to McIntire.

Dear adamp319,
Hypothetically, you’ll not have a GPA of 4.0, since I believe UVA use the average of the two classes if you have retaken the class. So your GPA will be close to 3.9. You can still explain about your C in the application.
If all your hypotheses come true, you will have a great chance if your essays are also good. However, reaching for too many things at once may affect your grades.
I personally don’t like people who want the officer position so that their application will look good.
You don’t need to take the SAT subject test. It’s not required.

Overall, you have great potential but in order to make the hypotheses come true, you need to manage your time and effort very well.

Good luck!!!

Hey Adamp319,

I know this might be late, but I think you’ll have a great chance of getting in, especially since you’re from a VCCS. Just stay on top of your schooling and get as many credits as you can. If I get in to McIntire, I’ll let you know and you can ask me any questions you might have.
