My D got admitted to Case, Mellon College of Science at CMU and UNC Chapel Hill both. My D wants to do a broad based undergrad with hard sciences, math and some humanities and eventually go to Med School.
I am not able to find more details on comparing these schools. Can someone help?
@JoyGrace - All are good schools, of course, so here are some factors you might consider:
-
Size - CWRU and CMU are similar size, much smaller than UNC. Easier to get around campus at the smaller schools but range of course offerings is broader at UNC.
-
Affiliated med school - CWRU and UNC have med schools, CMU doesn’t (but has some ties w Pitt, which does). Opportunities for undergrad med research may be better at the first two.
-
CWRU and CMU don’t offer the breadth/depth/quality of Humanities offerings that UNC does. This is related to #1.
-
I suppose the one big plus for CMU would be if your daughter is interested in combining math/stats/computing and bio/neuro - this is where CMU seems to shine.
Thanks a ton for your help @SkepticalOfMost
