What is the purpose of a MD MBA program? Like what is the most common career path taken from this type of program? It's just i have always been interested in business and biology/medicine, so this path sounds interesting to me.

What is the main reason people get this dual degree?

My son is doing this currently. His undergrad degrees are in economics AND biochem/micro/genetics, so several undergrad degrees in 4.5 years. He knew he wanted to combine the two fields especially as they pertain to nation-wide healthcare policy, implementation and the actual business of running whatever materializes years down the road.

He enjoys medicine and business. So a MD/MBA. Took the GMAT and the MCAT within months of each other because he knew what he wanted. Some MDs get their MBA later down the road when they become interested in management, running healthcare facilities, healthcare organizations and policy makers. He felt saving the extra year plus the extra year of tuition (MBA tuition is pricier than med school!) was a win, win for him. It also helped him choose which MD school to attend when sorting through his choices.

Don’t know the main reason for most people, just son’s reasoning.
