Work Experience in real estate

I just want to get into ANY ALLOPATHIC MED SCHOOL, but I’m not a great standardized test taker.

What MCAT SCORE can get me into MD schools?
Which Medical Schools Should I Apply To?
Do medical schools look at club Officers favorably? How important is it?

Thank you for taking your time to read this. Any help is appreciated.

@MED1421 your GPA is above avg.

What MCAT score? Aim for at least a 510 if you’re not picky and want to get in anywhere. 515+ if you want to go to a higher ranked US research school. You also need research experience for these schools.

Which Med School? apply broadly … 10-15 programs. consider your state schools as many will have preference for their residents.

Do med schools look at club officers favorably? Short answer … It depends on the club and your involvement. Less weight if there are no leadership roles.

If your school has good resources such as premed advisor etc, I would make sure you get comfy with them now as how you tell your story to med schools makes huge difference. If your school is lacking support, I would suggest getting help from people who have been through the process.

i don’t do chances because med school admissions are idiosyncratic and there are too many “soft factors” involved.

If you want to see what med school adcomms value, see p. 4 of this document:

https://www.aamc.org/download/462316/data/2017mcatguide.pdf

It’s a survey wherein adcomms ranks what factors are important for getting an interview invitation.

As for MCAT score–the answer is to aim as high as possible. Last year the mean MCAT for matriculating students was 510

But if you want data–

mean MCAT and GPA of matriclants broken down by ethnicity:
https://www.aamc.org/download/321498/data/factstablea18.pdf

mean MCAT and GPA of matriculants by state of residence
https://www.aamc.org/download/321502/data/factstablea20.pdf

Btw, leadership roles do not have to involve club memberships. There are other ways and other place you can demonstrate leadership.

To strengthen your application--I would suggest trying to shadow some primary care doctors. (Pre meds hate to hear this, but the majority of med students end up in primary care fields.)

Also--have you been involved in any long term community service (non-medical volunteering), particularly with vulnerable populations? Medicine is a service profession. Adcomms will want to see evidence you are willing to be of service to others.

Not all schools have decent pre-med advising--and even if they do, pre med offices may or may not be helpful. Many advisors are only familiar with their own region's med schools plus a small handful of nationally ranked schools. As an example, D2 attended an major East Coast research U known for its pre med program. We live in the West and D2 wanted to come back to the West for med school. The advising was pretty useless since they were not familiar with admissions at schools outside of the NE.

Go talk to the pre med advisor, but it they aren't especially knowledgable or helpful for you circumstances, invest in both MSAR (available on the AMCAS site for $30) and US News World Compass for Graduate School ($30) and begin your research using both of those. (Use both because each reports and tracks different data.)

What is your home state?

Do you have any ties to any other state(s)?

What were you SAT/ACT scores in high school?

Have you done any research?

What do you do during summers?

What real estate job do you do?

When are you taking the MCAT? And how are you prepping for it?

When do you plan on applying??

@MED1421

@mom2collegekids Do you think SAT/ACT scores are still relevant? If yes to what degree and to which type of schools ?

^^
Med schools don’t really care what your ACT/SAT scores are, but I think the app does ask for self-reporting.

I was only asking to get an idea of how strong/weak you are at tests.
