Me.. Applying to Princeton??

I'm a Junior at a large low-performing high school in Tri-State Area (I'm middle class and white)

SAT: 2300+ (based of psat)
SATII: 730, 760, 760, one more that is not so stellar (does it count, considering they ask for 3?)
Rank: top 10 students of ~512
APs: 5/4/4/5

ECs:Prez of Investment Club, Prez of Student Gov, Prez of NHS, Mock Trial Capt, science research at nyu, volunteering, internship w/ politician, finance internship in manhattan, Varsity Tennis (not that great though)

Any chances? Advice? Is it recommended for a student of my mediocore credentials (for Princeton!) and from my poor school to apply ED? or is that a disadvantage because of the stiff competition?
Be honest.. If Princeton is totally out of my league, which colleges should I look at?
I'm looking to major in statistics or econ
Thanks, in advance!!!

Also, I was wondering if I should apply ED even if I cannot afford the full tuition price, given Princeton's tendency to give generous financial aid. Btw, my family income is a ~100K, but I have a sister in college. If your family had a similar financial situation, how much FA did you recieve?

Well... you're certainly INVOLVED in a lot of things, and you have leadership positions in almost everything...

but I go to princeton.... trust me.... joining every club is not a good idea. it's makes you look indecisive and like you have no passion- just a jumble of this and that. If I were you - PRESTIGIOUS awards in EVERY one of those activities - I would somehow forget to mention a few of those. I don't remember which ones, but some of those activities sounded less important than others.

Let me ask you this: What is your passion? Not hobby. Passion. Find out what that is and emphasize upon it.

The tennis thing- hmmmm- that's tricky. If you're an absolute joke at it, don't mention it, but if you're low average to phenomenal- keep it. Just don't lie and say that you're good when you're not. That makes admissions officers not trust you.

Your scores are EXCELLENT! Way to go! Of couse I don't really know if you're telling the truth, because many people tend to lie about those things, but still... Good job! I was soooooooo afraid that I wasn't going to get into P when I was in high school, because I made a really low score the first time I took the SAT (let's just leave it at "low"). But my second score was REALLY good (1560). But Princeton doesn't look at scores alone, so I was in the clear. : )

Anyways, good luck when applying! I hope you get in!

Wow, thanks a lot four your detailed response! Do you think it's worth it taking the ED risk if I know I have to rely on FA? It will certainly boost my chances.

Yes, you should definitely apply early. If Princeton is your first choice, go for it. It's an awesome school. And don't worry about financial aid. Trust me- Princeton's financial aid policy is the best there is. MOst of the people I know are on financial aid (I am too), and they'll pay for almost all of your schooling, and even if you come from a well-off family, you can still get a really good deal. And the best thing is: YOU DON"T HAVE TO PAY THEM BACK! Princeton EXTREMELY generous. Go for it. Apply early. Good luck!

princetonian man... your posts make me happy. so energetic. i love it.

princetonian_man: Thanks man! Yeah, you've been great during your short stay at CC.

bump it up...

I am really wondering about Princeton. I just got out of junior year.
I've looked at Princeton and I want to be a biomedical engineer. I also am a girl, which should make it easier to get in. Is this true?

Can I get in?

My Stats are:

GPA: around 96, 97 this year
Rank: 11 of 295 freshman, 13 of 302 sophomore, don't know for this year but know in top 10
SAT: 720 Math, 540 Reading (taking over), 630 Writing
SAT IIs: taking next year in October

AP: don't know grades yet, but I took AP Lit and AP US History this year and I'm taking World Lit A, French 4A, Stats AP, Psych AP, Chem 2AP, Euro AP and Calc AP BC next year. I only took one advanced class freshmen year, and then I bothered my counselor to move me up in all last year and I've been in all since. Will my freshman year ruin it?

EC: NHS, Project Lead, Book Club, Physics League, Physics Club, NJ Math League (got best score of 11th graders this year), History Honor Society, French Honor Society, Seed Magazine (literary mag), Christian Drama School of NJ, Youth Alive (like Bible Club). I think that's all.

Community Service: babysit for free (handicapped people), Appalachia Service Project(like Habitat for Humanity), Youth Group at church (fundraise, etc.)

Awards: got $15,000 renewable scholarship to Georgian Court University for science experiment stuff

I really want to know if I have a chance or spend my time looking at more safety schools. I am looking at University of Hartford, Case Western, RIT, and Rennselaer. They all have biomedical engineering. I am also looking at Brown and Columbia. Do I have a chance? Thank you for your time.
