ME at Cal State Long Beach verses UC Merced

Daughter is accepted into the Mechanical Engineering Department at both UC Merced and Cal State Long Beach. Still waiting on a few others. But which school do you think is better for her? Could give specifics about her but was more interested in getting your opinion without any bias, other than the usual preference for their own schools. Size and location are the two most obvious, but I was looking for specifics about the details.

Go with Long Beach its the better school.

I would pick long beach. It is undeniably the better school.

uber_cast and Pscholler; Why would you choose CSLB? What aspects do you like about CSLB? I go back and forth given my daughter’s presonality and her demeaner. Have visited CSLB but have never been to UCM. Plan to visit UCM in the near future.

I posted this at another thread here, but it applies here as well so I’ll repost it. I personally I rather got to CSULB (a top tier CSU) than UCM a (low tier UC). CSULB is much cheaper and the location is definitely better. UCM is also one of the referral UCs, meaning if you didn’t get into the UCs you applied to and have the appropriate stats, you’re placed at UCR or UCM.

one of the top csu is better than the worst uc

Merced is in the middle of nowhere too. Plus I think they have accreditation problems.
