Meal plan comes with drinks?

Haha this may sound foolish to ask but well,

Say I were to get 175 flex meal plan. Every time I go to a dining hall and swipe my card, does this include a drink? Or is it just the meal, and I would have to buy a drink separately?

I'm asking because I've heard that drinks in general are very expensive in NYC...

And a personal question: Where do you guys usually spend your dining dollars? Meals? Starbucks?

Also, would the 225 flex meal plan be way too much for freshmen year? Thanks!

shuffleace,

I have read that each meal you get via the meal plan includes an entree, a side (or salad?) and a drink. Now I’m not sure if there are more fancy drinks in the dining halls that you have to pay extra for.

I gather the 225 flex is too much because you are tied into the dining halls at NYU (even if the average is say $8 a meal). The food there can get old even with the various choices. I’m envious of my son and other NYU students because you can find some cheap eats in the neighborhood there, e.g., St. Mark’s Place (different ethnic foods). By the way, are you aware there is a tour offered (Welcome Week, I think) on Cheap Eats in the area around NYU?

However, if you are a big eater and just want to be able to eat in accessible and convenient dining halls, then the plan may be for you. Depends on your eating style and food preferences, etc. But I have read many comments about students really getting tired of NYU food after awhile.

thanks for the info evolving =)

I usually spend the Dining Dollars on drinks to go, such as Starbucks, Peet’s, Dunkin, and the cold drink cases in the dining halls. I also spend it on ice cream (you can buy pints) and snacks to eat between classes. “All you can eat” meals do come with drinks, and the selection is usually:

Pepsi products in a fountain

juices from concentrate

flavored and filtered water

teas

coffee

hot chocolate

milks, including soy. lactaid on request.

all “to go” meals usually come with a fountain drink.
