How does the point system work for the meal plans?

Each point is like 1 dollar, and you use it based on that. And I think you have 1250 points per semester or 1500 with the premium.

If you eat at a dining commons, you will be charged a set amount per meal, but since it's buffet style you can eat as much as you want. I believe it's 6, 7, and 8 points for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, respectively, but I'm not 100% sure anymore.

If you eat elsewhere, say at the Terrace Cafe or the Golden Bear Cafe, you can use your points as straight up dollars, 1 point per dollar. Note that the GBC, in addition to food and drinks, has batteries, which you can spend points on! Good news if you have portable electronics (because you will likely find you have more points than you know what do to with).

do extra points carry over to next school year? (like from freshmen year to sophmore year)

No. They will carry over from the Fall Semester to the Spring Semester, but not from year to year. That means either gorge during Spring finals, or buy lots and lots of batteries.

is it 1250 (or 1500) points per school year, or per semester?

2500/3000 a year, 1250/1500 a semester.

New policy on the carrying over. You can only carry over 100 of your fall points to the spring semester. If you have more than 100 points remaining at the end of the fall semester, you forfeit all but 100 points, which will be added onto your spring points.

How long does 1250 points last on average?

well, for most it lasts through the end of the semester quite easily. generally ppl have a lot of points leftover. those who run out, even then, they don't really run low until 2-3 wks before the semester's over, and it's easy to bum meals off friends who have way too many points left
