Meal plan question

I have Bruin Premier 19, when I chose it, I didn't know that the meal plans are only for the dining halls and not the other campus restaurants...also Mom said it was ok because I got the cheapest housing, but I'm not sure I'll need 19 meals anymore knowing what i kno about other dining options on campus/off campus. Is Bruin 19 Premier too much? Would 14 Premier/regular be better for the average healthy eating male with no specific dietary concerns? (If you guys know any hungry children (or yourselves) I can feed a bunch of them at the end of the year if i stay on Premier 19.. :D)

Downgrade to 14P, unless you plan on eating breakfast every single day. Even with 14P, I was still wasting a lot of swipes. I only was able to use up all my swipes when I was swiping for two every time I ate.

Try it out for a week or 2 and downgrade if you think it's too much for you

i say stick with it, unless you go home every single weekend, last year i started with 14p and it was pretty horrible that you kinda have to count the times you eat, no smoothie/ crossroads run late at night, no ice cream at puzzles after dinner and so on, I think 19p might be a bit much but definitely fit you better, you can always get a coffee or croissant in the morning if you feel sleepy and want some breakfast... also i find that we rarely go to other places on campus to eat as you mentioned, the campus food isn't that much better than UCLA dining, it cost money, you kinda have to eat alone since most people eat on the hill, and normally you'll get too lazy to walk down there to just get dinner instead of dining halls close by...

hey kick, can you explain 14p? I thought it was pretty flexible.

It really depends on your eating habits. I know several people who had 19P and ran out. For me 19P was fine, and I usually don't stay for the weekends much also.. cept for fall quarter. But yeah, pink is right about the breakfast part. If you don't eat breakfast 19P is going to not work out, unless you plan on getting a smooth/coffee/pastry everyday.

If you eat breakfast, and stay most weekends, I'd say go with 19P. That works out to LESS than 3 meals a day.

And kickserve is right, campus food is w/e. except for Rubio's steak burrito. ****! I LOVE THAT THING.

I'm not sure if downgrading is possible halfway through the quarter. Upgrading is always an option though.

Glass, what kickserve means is that, with 14p, you basically get 2 meals a day per week.. that is assumming you stay on weekends. If you get a smoothie, you basically have one meal left for that day, plus whatever else you get else where.

***? How did you guys eat? My fall and spring quarter, I totes had swipes left over, even though I got coffee and ice cream often. :I

lol we have kinda weird eating habits I guess, I normally get coffee in the morning last quarter since i had early classes (bad idea to have classes before 10!!!) lunch is always on the hill, dinner and smoothie/ice cream at night, plus on a lot of the afternoons we go play basketball/soccer/tennis/others and when we get tired another swipe for smoothie or water :) and pizza party during finals week every night :) my roommate is vegetarian so we get 2 pizzas every night... I mean i guess we can't finish 19p in most cases but if we went 14p its definitely not enough... also my roommate ran out his 19p early, he eats 4 or 5 meals a day (breakfast, lunch, smoothie in the afternoon, dinner, late night ice cream/smoothie) I was sooo surprised that he ran out haha

but in the end, 19p a little too much but finish-able, 14p not enough unless you are on a pretty strict diet, 17 would be perfect but they don't have it... Since I really don't like to go home on weekends and have friends coming in from apartments 19p is a must (well im in a triple and we all have 19p :))

14p is plenty if you eat on campus, in westwood, or in your own room enough.

i'd eat cereal in my room, lunch on campus, didn't need as many meals on weekends because i'd be off campus at football games or on band trips... so for me, the flexibility meant that i'd have more meals stacked up later in the quarter. which meant i'd have enough for around 3 a day. or 4 if i got really behind lol.

yeah definitely don't go 19 if you don't stay at UCLA during weekends and eat lunch on campus...

14P is the magic plan. I'm from NorCal, so I was on campus every single weekend, and I still had leftover swipes. Granted, I hardly ever ate breakfast, so if you're really going to eat three meals a day you'll probably want to spring for 19P. But chances are you'll want to venture out into Westwood sometimes for a meal (In-N-Out!), or a friend will get a pizza, or whatever... even with getting the occasional ice cream/smoothie, I still had plenty of swipes left over with 14P to stock up on waters at the end of every quarter.

Hmm with 19p.. a typical day would be 2 swipes in the morning for breakfast/sack lunch, then dinner, and usually a bruincafe run at night, usually a turkey on wheat after I get back from wooden. 4 swipes a day. I still always manage ending up with a few extra swipes though.

LOL I never got ice cream from puzzles before. =[

So you can swipe at some of the resaurants? Like puzzles and bruin cafe? How do swipes work there? One item per swipe? I'm so undereducated about bruin card.

it's all in the housing thread somewhere, but i'll recap.

-meal plans work at any dining hall or restaurant on the hill (4 dining halls plus puzzles, rendez, and bcaf. i think crossroads is closing but it works there too)

-dining hall = 1 swipe for entrance, then eat all you want

-puzzles/bcaf/rendez = 1 swipe per meal combo, or smoothie, or coffee/pastry, or ice cream, or 2 bottled drinks, etc

swipes start move-in weekend, so before that you will not be able to get into the dining halls. instead you'll have the money the marching band gives you, salty, to use on campus (food only) for that week.

Puzzle's frogurt tastes and looks just soft-served ice cream

starving sophmore living off campus here.. ill take some swipes off you 19P guys :)

I'm gonna ****ing miss the ice cream. :( I think I'll be passing up dinner often for Puzzles ice cream :'(

sorry for bringing up the topic but, if i have leftover swipes for the quarter, can i redeem it for cash? cuz some guy here is saying that i can get 2.50 for each leftover swipe that i have

Never will UCLA pay you back for leftover swipes. It'd be wise for you to use your leftover swipes for food now, or drinks at the very end.
