which meal plan do you recommend? do people usually have meals left over to roll over? do students tend to eat out on weekends?

In my opinion, I would go for 19 NON-Premier. That's what I have and it is the most practical/economical in my opinion. It is ~200 bucks less than 14 Premier, which has less meals, but is more convenient.

With 19 Premier I get to use up all my swipes without having to resort to wasting all my swipes at the end of the quarter by getting pizza, buffalo wings..etc. What I do with 19 premier is waste off the swipes by "double swiping" a few minutes before 12am so that I can swipe once during the 10pm-11:59pm swipe period and once again during the 12am-2am swipe period. Therefore, when I go home on the weekends, which is every other week, I get to waste 4 swipes by "double swiping" 2 days(or whatever combination).

I understand that most people have the 14 Premier as it is more convenient but I find it rare to swipe more than once in one meal period unless you are bringing people who are from apts. or are non ucla students.

that's just my opinion.

hope this helps.

p.s. forgot
w/ premier you can swipe for pizza, buffalo wings and swipe other people in, whereas w/ non premier you can't do any of the above(unless you pay through some other option, of course ;) )

thanks. that helped

glad to help. any more questions?

i think i'm good for now.

Hey, Are the meals like a set or like a buffet like Davis?

The dining halls are buffet style and the fast food eateries (Puzzles, Crossroads, Bruincafe, and the soon to be open Rendevous) are a set.

My recommendation is that you get 14 Premeier and make friends in the apartments like me and feed them all the time!

Seriously, it depends on your eating habits and whether you go home. If you plan to go home often, a 14 Premeier meal plan or lower amount of meals (11 or 14) make the most sense. Why leave all those unused meals on the table? Either just don't plan on spending for those meals or being able to roll them over into the next week. If you are from out of town and don't go home that often, 14 Premeier or 19 non Premeier is probably best. You'll need all those meals. Of course you will skip some meals. As good as the dorm food is (and it's good), you will get tired of it, trust me. However, if you are a first year living in the dorms without a car, walking down to Westwood all the time is just too far to be practical more than a couple times a week. Basically, you'll want to eat out, but you'll be too lazy/tired/unmotivated/broke to walk down there, so plan on eating in the dorms most of the time you are at UCLA.

But if you are planning on joining a frat or some kind of club sports team, by all means get Premeier, all the older guys will love you for that!

Premier you mean? =)

All my UCLA education and I still can't spell!

i'd recommend 14 premiere. gives you just enough meals (2 meals a day), but of course once in a while you end up eating on campus or eating out or whatever, and those extra swipes can be used for pizza or smoothies or coffee/pastries, so it all works out.

premiere plans are also good so u can occassionally swipe your parents or your friends visiting from other colleges into the dining hall.

so you only use your swipes for food inside dorms where as on campus and off campus food, you pay with your own money?

also what will like 1 swipe or more swipes get you? will it get you like 1 buffet meal for each eating period?

yep. swipes are only for dining halls. on campus and off campus is cash (or possibly credit card for off campus).

one swipe allows one person into the dining hall for that meal period for a buffet style meal, or one meal at the residential cafes (puzzles, bruin cafe, crossroads, rendevous).

are all meal periods in the dining halls buffet style? how is the food there and the variety? how are the meals are the residential cafes? are they as worth it as a buffet meal at the dining hall?

yep all meals in dining halls are buffet style. the menu changes every day so its not the same thing over and over again, plus there are 4 different dining halls and they all serve different foods so there's a lot of variety.

the meals at the residential cafes, in my opinion, are not as worth it as a buffet meal obviously, but they do fill you up (or at least they fill me up).

heres the menus for all the different residential restaurants (halls and cafes) for you to look at to get an idea of UCLA food:

I would also recommend 14 Premiere, because you probably won't be eating breakfast, nor will you be eating your meals based on a healthy schedule, once you arrive at UCLA.

so you can use your swipes at each of the four dining halls?

Yes.

i have 14 blue and i think its perfect for me. premier might be worth the extra money if you think you will have lot of non on campus residents as visitors and will need to swipe them in for food, or if you see yourself missing A LOT of meals on campus (in which case you should consider the 11 cub plan anyways). i eat 2 meals a day, so its exactly 14 a week. i never miss a meal, or at least i try not to. last quarter i probably didnt use 10 swipes total. if i had premier i would have paid $300 more for the privelege to keep those 10 swipes....thats $30 a swipe. not worth it IMO.

I would agree with flopsy. Schedules definitely get screwed up. 14P.
