Meal Plan!

I was looking over the meal plan and saw that the only available options seem to be Silver and Gold. However, the student life newspaper lists a Bronze plan which is smaller.

The general consensus seems to be that the smallest plan is the best, but is Bronze not available to freshman or something? For people who have already signed up, did this happen to you?

Thanks

Correct. Freshmen can’t choose the smallest option. I recommend Silver.

Okay, thank you. That’s the info I was looking for. Silver it is.

they renamed the meal plans gold/silver/bronze?

say whaaaa?

get the smallest plan that is available to you. You can always add more points later. Also, adding later is $1 per point whereas the initial plan is $1.25 per point. So, it’s actually cheaper to buy the smaller plan.

There are overhead costs that get bigger with the smaller the meal plan, so it’s best to get the meal plan closest to what you will actually use, but even the smallest one should provide more than enough points. I’m in no way stingy with my points, and I’m almost 100 over on the smallest freshman plan.

^False. The overhead costs are now entirely equal.

It’s always cheaper to get the smaller plan.

It’s not difficult math DJEureka. Per the new plans, you would have spent an extra $700 for 700 meal points if you had gotten a ‘silver’ plan. When you only needed ~100 extra. So that would have been $550 down the drain (assuming you end the year with 150 too few points).

Although apparently they’ve finally realized that they can’t charge >$1 per point past the baseline. Either way, it’s still cheaper to have fewer points than you need than have too many and waste money.

My bad, just checked the Stud Life article. Sometimes Wash U makes no sense, I don’t get why they even bother with bigger meal plans under this new system…
