Meal plan?

What is the best deal for the freshman meal plan? I want as much food as I can get for the almost $5,000 I will be paying. Also, since I am a vegitarian, is there a discount? I know some schools offer one.

I don't believe there is a great deal of flexibility (though there are flex points for use throughout campus) in the first year meal plan. I believe its variations are governed more by where one lives than by choices offered. In later years there is greater flexibility. I understand there are good vegetarian choices, but no discount.

all freshman get the same meal plan.

it is huge and you will have enough food mostly

Here is the full info on the meal plan: http://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/level3.asp?id=361

You will get the most food if you get either the Traditional or the Flexible Freshman plans. The dining halls that use those plans, Pierce and B-J, cost 1 meal point per meal, and you can eat as much as you want. At Bartlett everything is very overpriced (especially fresh fruit), and you have to pay by the item (in dining points or flex dollars).

Yes, my D was in Max her first year, and found the Bartlett salad bar really added up fast. Starch and fried is cheaper than healthy, it appears

My friend said that the Bartlett plan has a ton of points, and that as long as you manage it well, it's enough for you for all meals for the year.

then again, she might be wrong, as she eats in pierce, which she loves because of the fabulous salad bar and the fact that it's right dowstairs from her.

the bartlett plan has a lot of points though they did just cut it down (they may be adding more because we complained a lot).

the problem is, prepare-it-yourself salads and fresh fruit are sold by weight and it is easy to make them add up a lot if you dont use clever tricks like using a smaller bowl so it weighs less.
