meal plan

which meal plans are u guys planning to get? everyone seems to recommend liberty cuz it has the least meals and most dinning$s. But what about… Spruce is it? that has comparable $$$ but less meals and is cheaper… ideas?

Hey Andy - I think we have to get either Quaker, Red, Blue or Liberty Plans as first years. The rest of them are for upperclassmen. Personally I think I'm either going to get Red or Blue with the hope of eating breakfast in college.

hahah... i was thinking about red/blue (the one that has fewer meals), but then i keep hearing ppl say that dining hall food sux.... so i dunno

i guess housing plays a role in what you pick...
for example, i'm going to be in hill, so i might eat in the dining hall more often as compared to someone from the quad.

I know most people went with 270 last year (I don't know what that is now.. it's hte one with the least meals and most dining dollars.) I personally went with 320 (the next one up) because I lived in hill and it worked pretty well first semester.. by the end I was sick of dining hall food though and second semester switched to 270. hope that helps :)

sorry to derail this thread but mnasy, how was hill...i'm living there next year...it was my 4th choice :(

I lived in Hill last year as well, and did the exact same thing as mnasy... I got the Flex 320 first semester (I believe it's comparable to the Blue Plan this year), but switched to the Flex 270 (Liberty) for 2nd semester.

A-Bomb... Check out the Housing thread for more info on Hill, lots of ex-Hillies have given their insight. However, in a nutshell, if you go into it with an open mind, you'll love it. It is an awesome atmosphere to meet people and has a great community feel to it. The building sucks, but the people/social atmosphere make Hill what it is. No one is ever happy to be put in Hill, but I know only one or two people who disliked Hill whatsoever by the end of this year.

so we can't get like the walnut plan?

Sorry to keep with the Hill subject, but fluffhead, can you elaborate a little more on why the Hill building sucks? Is it ugly? If yes, only from the outside or the inside or both? Why else does it suck?

When are we supposed to select meal plans?

anyone? walnut plan?

definitely get the meal plan with the most dining dollars and least meals. I had 270 last year (like 135 meals/$375 dd) and both semester I had like 50-60 meals left over. I resorted to eating off campus most days since the food is NASTY.

I second what Fluffhead said.. the atmosphere makes the building.

and Rudess: The building does kinda suck.. It's ugly outside, and the rooms are small (in comparision to some rooms in the Quad.. some are actually a lot smaller in the Quad though)

Depending on the room you get you either get a nice normal window, or a realy tall and skinny window.. I had the tall and skinny and it kinda sucked for getting air in the room (but then again, I faced into the fishbowl so there wasn't much breeze in there.. the other aspects ofthe fishbowl rocked however).

Common rooms are definitely the plus of Hill.. there's two for each suite (a "suite" is just the group of rooms your GA is responsible for).. on the upper floors (4 and 5) the suites are the 4 corners of the building and you have one "inside" common room and one "outside" common room (if you've been in Hill, the "outside" common areas are the ones that hang over into the atrium.. the inside ones are where they kind of expand the hallway to about 3 times its size and have a table and chairs and couches and such)

And as for meal plans, I always had meals left over, so definitely go with less meals. They're claiming to be making dining better next year, but I wouldn't hold your breath..

I'm extremely confused because during the Penn Preview Days I received a red/pink sheet detailing the meal plans available to freshmen. On it, it says that the Quaker Plan (160 meals and $275 Dining Dollars) is the most popular for freshmen. But on Campus Express I believe the Quaker Plan is named the Blue Plan. Basically what I would like to know is what is the most popular meal plan for freshmen, with its current name. Also, what is the best meal plan for someone living in Ware? Thanks.

Whatever the meal plan with the least meals and most dining dollars will be the more popular. They changed the names this year so I really have no idea what it's called, but it was called 270 last year (I think we had 270 meals for the year..)

they changed the names on campus express. The unlimited plan is now the quaker plan, the red one is still red, the quaker plan is now called the blue plan, and the blue plan is actually called the liberty plan. They say that the (quaker/blue plan) is the most popular, but on campus express it says that the (blue/liberty plan) is the most popular among first year students.
