I have a daughter who is applying to both schools and after reviewing both dining plans this is what I have learned.
If living on campus at Auburn you are required to put $995 in dining dollars on your account each semester and can spend those dining dollars at any on campus food venue. You have until end of summer session to spend the dining dollars for that academic year or lose them. If living off campus you are required to purchase $300 in dining dollars.
At Alabama during freshmen year you are required to purchase at least the silver meal plan($1272/semester for 160 meals), which can only be used at 5 dining locations, and $300 per semester in dining dollars, which can be used at all on campus food venues and a few off campus. After spring semester any unused meals will be lost and any unused dining dollars can be refunded. After freshmen year I do not believe you are required to purchase meal plan but are still required to purchase $300 in dining dollars per semester.

Thanks for the info
