meal plans at washu

hey, does anyone know wat's the diff between normal meal plans and kosher plans? wat's so special abt the kosher plans?

The kosher plans are offered for students who wish to observe certain religious practices.

On another note my D was advised to get the lowest cost meal plan available for freshman since there is plenty of free food around campus.

free food around campus? how so?

I guess there must be a lot of events such as speakers, meetings and other gatherings at which students are feed. So, just get the most basic meal plan, this is the info given to my D by a current freshman.

Also, you can always add points to your meal plan but if you do not use all you paid for, you will loose the the point as they do not roll over into the next academic year or even the summer session. Just get basic 3 Square Meals a day plan then add points if needed.

Mizo, this is what I heard as well. But I also heard that when you add points its actually cheaper, so that's just another incentive to start with the basic square meal plan.

Cool, we all love cheaper!

hey, thx! does this mean that there's absolutely no need to sign up for the kosher plan unless i'm a vegetarian or something? (no offence)

oo thanks for the tips Mizo and Chet! Still haven't decided for sure on WashU...but that helps!

I think with the Kosher plan you get an automatic discount at the register on prepackaged Kosher food (which is typically more expensive due to the special requirements....on a side note, it also usually looks amazing/gourmet).
There are also plenty of vegetarian options.
And, yes, I would recommend the Square Meals Plan (the smallest one that freshmen can buy). Most people always have more points than they need, and at the end of the year they do disappear.

You'll be fine as a vegetarian a normal meal plan--I did the square meal deal this year, and I think i'm going even lower next year. Actually, veggie food is usually cheaper, since Bon Appetit usually charges extra to put meat into things like salads, quesadillas, etc.

As Melanieeek said, go for the cheapest plan, you can add points later if you need them. Usually, after the firsts weeks of school, students tend to wake up later getting a brunch in place of two meals.
