Meal Plans for Next Fall

Any current UCI students response if possible

I can't decide on the type of meal plan I want, whether it be the 165 or 120 or 100.

Can you tell me how much a guy who is like 5 10 and 150lbs might need for the upcoming fall?

I dont want to get the highest because I dont know if I will eat that much

Comments? THANKS!!!

is the money a factor?

do you eat 3 meals a day?

do you plan to go home on weekends?

the last question probably helps the most. if you go home on weekends and eat only 2 meals a day you should get the 100 because it works out nicely (9 meals from m-f x 11 weeks)

you also have to factor in that you get either $75 or $50 in flex, and you can use those towards meals at commons or eating at the student center if you run out of meals (or if you just feel like eating there)

well i dont think moeny would be a factor because i got fin aid and loans covering my expenses for next fall

I eat three meals a day. Yup.

I dont plan to go home on weekends as much.

maybe the 120 option would probably work best for me?

there’s the possibility that you might not eat 3 meals (if you mean the standard breakfast-lunch-dinner vs. just going to commons 3x) because you might have early/late classes (too early to wake up to go to commons first, or maybe a late class and you want to sleep in).

but anyway, i tried to calculate it and 3 meals a day x 7 days x 11 weeks is way more than any meal plan, lol. (however it isn’t a full 11 weeks) but i think going with 120 is a good idea since it’s in the middle. you can always change the plan later if it’s too little

To be honest, I started giving up on eating breakfast in the commons because it required me to wake up too early. I think two meals a day is more reasonable, and perhaps get a microfridge to provide your down breakfast, either cereal, a sandwich, or whatnot. Personally, I find eating at the commons takes longer for breakfast anyway.

As for the weekends, you’re also looking at eating two meals a week. I think it opens like at 9:30am or something, so trying to fit that third meal would screw up your eating schedule. Just go with the 120, I think it has more flex dollars (so more starbucks/student center food) and such. I downgraded fall quarter because I wasn’t finishing all my meals since eating breakfast so early was not fun since I had 8am classes.

yeah, when i was at commons today i just remembered that on the weekends it’s more like 2 meals. they have continental breakfast in the morning but i personally don’t find it to be worth a swipe.

You guys are awesome… THANKS!!

I think I am gonna do what you guys said and get the middle plan. I don’t eat much anyways, but its better to be safe I guess.

How are the foods at the common? Do they taste good? What are the best meals?

brandywine > pippin > mesa, although i went back to mesa yesterday and the food seemed majorly upgraded (although still not at pippin standards).

the food tastes pretty good (and it’s all you can eat) but most people usually get sick of it as the year goes on.

not everyone would agree that brandywine > pippin (some say it’s the other way around or the same food quality).

brandywine is considered better than pippin because everything there is made fresh (but this limits their variety; plus the building is smaller anyway) and they also have ice cream novelties and smoothies. (pippin on the other hand has slushies; mesa does too) brandywine seems to repeat their menu slightly less than pippin does. it is also cleaner, and they have late night meals from M-W.

pippin has a really good variety but they can get repetitive sometimes (you’ll see the same meal within weeks). i like the paninis and pasta lover’s trio. personally i don’t like eating at pippin at night because of the lights… there’s just something about them that makes me feel like the place is dingy. it used to get messy because people wouldn’t clean up after themselves, but they seem to be cleaning the tables more routinely.

go to brandywine if you want things from the grill though, they have slightly fewer options but i believe it’s their specialty

no comment about mesa though because i hardly ever eat there
