Does anyone have any insight toward the various meal plans?

My son is a freshman at UMass. He’s on the Value Meal Plan, which works out to about 2 meals a day. He was worried he’d run out of meals, but actually had a bunch left over at the end of the Fall semester. Anyway, if you run out, you can always buy more meals.

My S has been on the Value Plan for both years, he has had meals left each semester. Also, with the value plan you get 15 guest meals, which my S never used any of, so if you run a few short you can probably get someone in your dorm to “guest” you in.

Unless you are really used to eating 3 meals a day, the unlimited plan will be overkill for most people.

I’m on the value meal plan and this is my first semester I’ve even come close to using up all the meals. If you even leave campus for a long weekend (or go to a few club meetings that serve you pizza) you’ll have a few left over at the end of the semester. Add that to the fact that your friends will most likely be generous enough to guest swipe you if you run out and the fact that you also get 9 meals at the cafes around campus and you’ll be fine.

I only have two friends on the unlimited plan. One is an athlete who likes to eat 4 meals a day and the other kid just likes to run through grab n go (special section of the dining hall you can take a sandwich, pasta, chips, desert, a drink, etc. out for a meal swipe) and horde all the food in his room for snack food instead of going to the grocery store and buying snacks.
