Meal Plans

Are the meal plans included in room and board fee? If not, where do I find the cost of the plans? Also, which plan is better; blue or gold? Thanks!

From what I know, the meal plans are the “board” part of the room and board fee so yes.

Sorry to steal the thread, but I had a few questions regarding the whole meal situation at ND- are all meals all you can eat buffet-style (big eater here)? And the gold plan covers just 3 meals a day right? How much extra is it vs the blue plan?

I believe they are included in the room and board number and are the same price since the 14 meal/week plan includes 300-some dollars in Flex points which can be used to buy snacks at the Huddle or meals at other restaurants on campus. All meals in the dining halls are all you can eat, but most people prefer the 14 meal plan over the 21 meal plan because very few if any people manage to make it to the dining hall 3 times a day because of sleeping through breakfast, being too busy with class/activities, going out to eat off campus, eating at another restaurant on campus, eating cereal in your room, etc. And most people appreciate having the Flex points for coffee at Starbucks, snacks for their room, eating meals at on campus restaurants, late night Reckers runs, etc.

I strongly recommend the 14-meal plan. I know very few people on it who run out of meals any given week, and they do so on Friday evenings, with the reset being Saturday morning. This year, it was $355 in Flex Points a semester, and they were great with The Huddle, Subway, Burger King, Starbucks, Reckers, and assorted Cafes on campus taking them. Nearly everyone runs out, though a friend once dropped $400 Flex Points in 45 minutes in Reckers…

I am not from US and I will be arriving at Notre Dame in fall.

These $355 in flex points are 355 in dollars or is other type of currency? I ask that because of the “flex points” nomenclature.

How much costs a meal in Burger King, Subway, etc? I know this is variable according in what you are eating, but I have no idea of how much it can be.

Thanks.

The $355 is in dollars, it is just referred to as “flex points” because the money can only be used on campus - it has no value elsewhere.

I would say a typical Subway/Burger King meal would be about $5, but it does depend what you buy.

Welcome to ND!
