Meal Plans

I was accepted ED to Cornell Class of 2010 and I was just wondering if any current students would be willing to offer some advice about choosing a meal plan. From what I've read so far, most people recommend the 14 meals per week even for big eaters (like myself), so what do you think? Thanks in advance.

Most current students seem to advise to start at 14 then move down if necessary. Keep in mind that you'll have big red bucks in addition to your meals.

Forgive me for being unwise in the ways of college life, but ... typically, we eat three meals a day, not two, right?

So big red bucks cover the rest? Or do we go grocery shopping in Ithaca and eat cereal and such? Or some combination?

Well you wake up later for one thing usually depending on your schedule, and frankly, you probably won't want to eat all three meals of the day right out of the same dining halls, award winning food or not. But yes, Big Red Bucks seem to cover other meals according to what current students have told us.

No way can you eat 3 meals a day in the dining hall. Theres not enough time in the day for that. Even if there was, you will be tired of dining hall food by October anyway. Start with 14 a move down. Big red bucks can cover snacks or grab and go lunches. You might also want to keep cereal or bagels on hand in your room when you are in a rush to class.

dining halls aren't like at home where you grab a bowl of cereal for breakfast ... if you're gonna eat breakfast you're gonna have omlets, pancakes, waffles, bagels, sandwiches, french toast - the works.

I'm a very big eater, and 14 meals plus $500 big red bucks is more than enough. Depending on my class schedule, i'll use the brb's to buy a bagel or a banana and coffee in the morning and then use one meal for lunch and one for dinner - or - i'll start with a very big breakfast, use my brb's for a wrap or a sandwich or a salad or a burger for lunch, and then use another meal swipe for dinner.

it seems like the 14 meal plan is better than the 10 meal plan. the 14 meal plan is only approx 100 dollars more so the value you get is far better.

i have a question...if you don't use up your BRB's by the end of the year..do they refund your remaining BRB's? Or do you have to use them all by the end of the year?

BRB's carry over from first semester to second semester, but expire at the end of the school year.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but is it easy to eat a bowl of cereal somewhere in your dorm? I know I'm strange, but I eat a bowl of cereal every morning and couldn't do with just a bagel or something.

yes it is...i mean why would anyone care if you eat cereal, unless its their cereal or milk or you spill it over them.
