Does anybody have any experience to share on the meal plans offered by GatorDining? Unlimited vs Block options vs Meal options? What about those who reside in the Hume Hall?

All of the current freshman that my D knows have advised her to do only the declining balance meal option. You just swipe your card when and whereever on campus that you are and your account is debited the cost of your meal purchase. Cost more per full meal at the dining halls (Gator and Broward) but worth it in the long run if you have a kid who most likely will grab a sandwich at subway or miss meals.

If you do the block options...the 150 block option was recommended by our tour guide...it has the most flex bucks (declining balance) attached to it.

Yeah, I thought that I was going to eat all the time at the dining hall but I ended up only using about 90 of my 150-block meals each semester. It does have a lot of declining balance like seiclan said, so I would recommend that one if you want to get an actual meal plan.

Otherwise, the declining balance is okay. The only problem is that you're paying a full $6.85 or whatever it is for each meal...so you feel like it's a waste if you stop between classes and get an apple or something. It's really nice though because you can use it either at the dining halls or at the other restaurants on campus (Subway, Wendy's, an Italian place, etc.)

Hume is fairly close to one of the cafeterias (about a five minute walk).

150 block if you are going to eat in the dining hall and declinging balance if you are going to eat at subway, burger king, etc everyday. Everything else is way too much food (19 meal, unlimited, 14, and 10), you will never eat that much.

I have 150 block( includes 150 meal and $300 flex bucks). I usually have ~5 meals left at the semester. The flex bucks can be spent at any on campus food places (java city, wendys, burger king, subway, taco bell, sushi, graham oasis, beaty shop, chick fil(cant spell), etc).

Thanks to all for sharing your experiences with the Mean Plan.

It seems is a choice between declining balance and 150 blocks.

I agree. My daughter would probably prefer we just put the cost of the 150 block plan (about $1300 a semester) into a declining balance account so she can eat when and whereever. She barely eats meals at home (protein bar breakfast, low cal. yogurt or salad lunch on the go...) so I doubt it would be worth it to get the "meal plan" for her. Is $2600 for the year in the declining balance enough?
