Meal Plans...

couple of questions

what is the difference between “Garnet Bucks” and “FlexBucks”?

Are suwannee and fresh food the two primary dining halls?

What is the Figg Players dining hall?

When you eat at other dining venues on campus i.e. Parek Avenue Diner, Barrister’s Bistro, Einstein bagels etc, fo you use flexbucks, garnet bucks or cash?

What is the best meal plan optuon for summer session and the fall of freshman year?

can you use your meal plan/garnet bucks/flex bucks off campus? I know where we live for example, Iona College students can use there meal cards at off campus restaurants.

Thanks

Garnet Bucks do not expire and can be used from year to year. Flexbucks are included with meal plans, unused flexbucks roll from Fall to Spring and expire at the end of Spring Semester. Both can be used at Seminole dining retail locations.

yes

Coyle Moore, Figg Players Dining Room is only available for students for lunch Monday - Friday. It is the dining hall for athletes.

You can use any of the three payment methods.

You don't have to buy a meal plan unless you live in the renovated East dorms. If you want one, think about how much you like to eat, how quickly you will get sick of the dining halls, how motivated you would be to make your own meals, how would you get groceries if you don't have a car, will you be up in the morning to eat breakfast, will you be staying around on weekends. The dorms have refrigerators in each room and kitchens available too. Going to the dining hall together can be a nice, social experience for freshmen.

No, but you can use flexbucks or garnet bucks in the Trading Post on campus to purchase groceries but not as cheap as off-campus stores.

FSU-UF - correct anything I might have incorrect -- thanks

When we had to buy a meal plan we opted for the minimum and more Garnet Bucks. Of course, our daughters like to cook. After 1 year we dropped the meal plan entirely.

Some students need a meal plan or they'd not eat properly.

thanks cybermom and P2noles

Our D didn't want a meal plan. She's in Dorman and there is a full kitchen on every floor. She's a vegetarian and likes to cook so we just put about $500 in Garnet Bucks on her ID when she started the semester and she uses them when she goes to Suwannee (which isn't very often). She mainly cooks for herself or goes to Park Ave (a little pricey).

That's all correct, and I would just like to add that the Figg is AWESOME! If I had to do it all over again, I would not get a meal plan and just use garnet bucks. With the amount of meals that I use, the plans just don't work out to be a good deal at all. I don't know anyone who eats a full 14 meals per week on campus, and that is the only plan where you will get a significant discount. I would have probably saved money by just having the meal plan money in garnet bucks. The block plans aren't a good deal either.

where is the figg dining hall located?

University Center D but non-athletes can only eat there for lunch.

great. thanks

we'll have to check it out when we are down for orientation

I've eaten at figg once, I was expecting a huge variety of food but it seemed to be a similar selection to whats at fresh food and suwanee, but i will admit the food seemed a bit higher in quality..ofcourse they dont want the athletes getting sick on the cheap stuff they serve at suwanee.

For the record I've eaten at Suwanee several times. Decent food, as much as you want. Far better than what I received in the dorm in the 1970s.

Quite livable. However, get some Garnet Bucks. :)
