Hey, what are your thoughts/opinions on the meal plans? What plan are you going to get? I think i'm going with the golden bear(unlimited) as i eat 3x a day, will be a student athlete, and yeah. What about you? They should have a 21 meals a week plan, they make a huge jump from 14-unlimited

I'm going for the 14-meal plan because I don't eat a lot for breakfast, and I'll definitely end up buying lunch a la carte sometimes.

I signed up for the unlimited plan as a freshman, but quickly realized that I could never eat that much from the dining halls! You have to remember that there are only a few "all you can eat" dining halls where these meals are accepted. There are many more "a la carte" places that accept Big Red Bucks (or cash, credit). It's quite likely that you'll have lunch or dinner at one of these places, not to mention at a restaurant off campus (especially on weekends).

Just some food for thought :-)

Yeah as much as i liked the Golden Bear, I probably didnt go often enough to utilize it to its full value. Getting free tickets to cross-country gourmet was a pretty sick perk though. This semester i dropped entirely down to just big red bucks, as I joined a fraternity and went on the house mealplan (keep that in mind, if you pledge somewhere, you'll probably have to go on the house mealplan...i never even thought of that until it happened). That works pretty well, since the a-la-carte places are more convenient for lunch anyhow. But yeah, 14 should probably be enough for most ppl, especially since the included 500 big red bucks is enough to pay for lunches for a whole semester, more or less.

I totally agree; most people don't have the time to get to a dining hall twice a day. And even if you did; after those intial few weeks; you will get tired of seeing the same thing all the time. I would recomend the 10 meals a week plan. Only do 14 if you are a really big eater. If you sign up for the unlimited plan you are flushing your money down the toilet.

Just about everyone I know (including me) started out at unlimited or 14 meals a week for the first semester and dropped down afterwards. I'm currently on the 10 meals a week plan and it's still a bit too much. I only eat 1 meal in the dining hall on weekdays and 2 on weekends.

if you don't plan on using a lot of BRB, i recommend the 7 because when you run out of those 7 meals/week, you can always use BRB, however, if you only use 8/10 meals that week, 2 meals will be lost...forever!

anyways, i'm pretty mad about my house mealplan. we used to have 3 options (unlimited with 50, 250, or 400 brbs) and now it's just 250 brb. argh, oh well, at least it's unlimited in 2 dining halls...

I intially had 14 (which was way too many) so I went down to 10 for last semester and regularly wasted 4-5 a week. This semester I have 7 and I still regularly waste 2-3 a week.

I think I'm gonna get 7

but what do you guys do for breakfast? like for a LONG LONG time now years and years i have been just eating one muffin for breakfast mon-fri. if muffins run out, i eat cereal, like i am RIGHT NOW. Then for lunches i make my own cuz i drive home for lunch...but i like a decent size, like say grilled cheese or nachos or sumtin. Can't u also top up ur BRB??? like just pay and the money can be transferred to BRB? I dont think of myself as a huge eater, but i do eat bigger breakfasts on the weekends, big dinners, and will be an athlete so as now, eat lots of snacks or small meals thruought the day to keep my hunger till after the sport. I just dont think ill be able to keep buying muffins everymorning for breakfast at a grocery store, and even if i could, i think its CHEAPER just to pay an extra 600$ a year. Also i like the sound that u wont ever LOSE meals forever. But from what u all say, i may go for 14 now....ne more thoughts/suggestions?? Thnks

Wait...if you're not on the unlimited plan, how do you get access to the cross-country gourmet thingys?

BTW prices for 2005-06 are up now and they've increased a bit... http://www.dining.cornell.edu/dining/meal_plans.asp

I'd say 14 would be good for you, martinez. They have unlimited supplies of muffins at the dining hall in the morning, you will be happy to know.

The CC Gourmet thing, by the way, has two parts. The first part is where the actual guest chef comes and, along with assistants, cooks a really fancy meal for a couple hundred people. This is the part you need tickets for (these are the tickets you get for free with golden bear), and the food is amazingly good. The next part, a few days later, is when the dining halls do meals based on recipes from the guest chef's restaurant. These are still damn good and are open to everyone. So that's that.

u get those tickets not JUST for golden bear too right? i could have sworn i say other packages taht gave u it.

I recommend getting 17 meals and seeing how it works. I don't know a single person that used more than that. 14 was good for me. You'll end using a lot of brb and I don't know if you'll be able to get up early enough to eat before classes.

i'm partial to appel's valentine's day dinner (RSVP only). yummy, lobster with/either filet mignon, NY steak, duck, or fish...with omg, the desserts are to die for...and only 1 meal swipe + 13BRB...i'm doing every year, even if my partner is in florida and i have to eat alone! (not that I have these past 2 years, but i'm not letting a little thing like eating by myself on v-day stop me ^_^)

CC Gourmet...eh. they were better last year..probably because they had cotton candy and stuff ... teehee...i love cotton candy

shizz, there is no 17 meals a week is there? that would be perfect. I think maybe cuz ur like a senior is it? that things have cahnged, lol, no offence or nething, but this happened wen we were discussing math , lol. I hope there is 17 tho. Argh seems like it was better years ago, better math, better meals. lol

How are meals deducted? I know that when my brother was at Cornell (10 years ago) that you could enter the dining hall as many times as you wanted during the meal hours and you'd only be charged 1 meal. Is this still the case?

Oh wow, thanks for posting that link. I didn't realize you could drop to 7 or 10 meals.. and still keep the same amount of BRBs. I'd probably waste the 14 meals. :)

dont u ppl eat? lol, i eat 3 meals a day, breakfast small, lunch medium, dinner heavy with snacks and stuff al in between mostly between lunch and dinner and after dinner. LOL, and im not fat! lol. Am i the only one who eats like me?
