Help--there are so many options and I can't figure out why anyone would do anything other than the unlimited plan. What am I missing?

My D chose the 185 meal plan because it gave you the most dollars/points to use at other eating places. She did not like the dining hall food. She was more of a "grab and go" kind of person. She would eat at the Connolly Center or take stuff back to her room. With the unlimited plan, you could eat all you want at the dining hall but not take anything out.

Thanks for responding. A few more questions. Did the plan offer her enough food for the semester? Are the points values really dollar values? Are the take-out (MPE) choices mostly fast food?

She had enough meals and you can also use any unused guest meals. I'm not sure but I think you get 10 guest meals. The MPE choices are sandwiches, soups, salads, drinks, muffins etc. I'm not sure what your definition of fast food is but it is pretty healthy. My D did not like any of the "mystery meat" products served in the dining halls.

As a freshman I would suggest going with unlimited. It's the least confusing and I think the best for the freshman.

with the sga alternative, can MPEs be used at the dining halls? i'm kind of confused, I signed up for that plan but now im not sure!

I think the MPE can be used anywhere on campus. Also, you can change your meal plan anytime during the first few weeks of school for no fee. After a certain time, a fee will be charged to change plans. For two years, my D never ran out of meals.
