What meal plan do you recommend? Is the 200 block enough if you don't plan on eating every meal at a dining hall? Or is it worth it to just get the unlimited plan?

i would say get the 150 plan. I thought that was enough for me.

and plus, if you do the math, you have to pay 9-10$ per meal

so don’t waste it on a bowl of cereal in the morning…

I had the 200-block first semester, and the 150-block for second semester. At the end of the year, I had 129 meals remaining.

Wait… Why?

200 blocks is about 13 meals a week… Not even 2 a day…

I got the unlimited meal plan because I figure I’d eat easily more than 2 meals a day, probably more. Why do people eat so little in the dining halls?

Strato, I think you are right. My D is a grazer, and also enjoys eating with friends. She’d even probably go hang w/ a group just to chat and have a coffee or bottled water, even if she already ate. Unlimited seems like a great option, and there are alot of places to eat. If you don’t like a particular dining hall, just walk to another, explore, partake of the variety. Otherwise you risk kids just filling up on junk food at a much higher cost. With unlimited, you can even hit some late night dining options I think, explore North Campus (Blue Apple), etc. Can you even get Starbucks in some locations or am I wrong ?

is it random notification or based on your lottery number, or something else?

I haven’t heard many/any current UofM students say good things about unlimited… most people I’ve talked to do either 125 or 150 and opt to add money as blue bucks. I’m going with 200 block because the upgrade to unlimited costs $500 (which I would rather just add as blue bucks / dining dollars) and you lose $100 worth of blue bucks and dining dollars if you upgrade to unlimited. Blue apple will accept dining dollars and starbucks would accept blue bucks, so you won’t be able to spend much time at places like that with unlimited…

is it possible to change meal plans? like a few days after school starts?

i’m almost positive i read you can change your meal plan within the first month or something like that

i got 200/block… i think it’s impossible to make unlimited useful. i’ve heard most people actually wish they went lower because after awhile they stop eating at the dorms as much. plus, for me, i’ll just have a light breakfast at my dorm.

i highly recommend getting the lowest meal plans available. i don’t know anyone that used up all their meals, even with the lowest plans. i myself had the lowest meal plans available and still had~30 extra at the end of the year. that’s after i TRIED to waste a bunch (going in just for some fruit, ice cream, etc).
