Meal Plans?

Dining - Meal Plan Options

So, what do you recommend? I'm not really sure what's ideal. o_O

Bear Choice

But my god, when did they get so expensive?

You should see the housing rates! Something like $8,500. for a single?! Yikes!

Depends on how often you plan to eat in the dining hall vs. how often you plan to use Big Red Bucks (basically Cornell dining cash) in a la carte places. I’d start with Bear Choice or Bear Traditional, and then see how it goes. You’re given a few weeks at the beginning of the semester to change your meal plan if necessary, so no worries there.

But that’s about what you would pay off-campus, in typically inferior quarters, so that seems reasonable. (Although you would admittedly have it for 12 months.) I want to say my single in 2001-2002 cost $6900 or so.

I just checked the meal plans for a bunch of other colleges and they all seem to be in the $4k - $5k a year range. I want to say Bear Choice was $3k when I was a student.

If you get the Bear Basic, are the BRB’s enough to cover your other hunger-needs through out the semester?

I had Bear Basic and I had more than enough BRBs

What’s going to happen is that you are going to find yourself probably wanting to use more than 7 meals a week for the first couple of weeks a school due to the social activity of eating and meeting thousands of new people, and then it will die down.

Hmmm, so how does Bear Choice sound for the first semester? A little room for movement, I guess o_o

Does anyone ever get the Golden Bear…? that plan looked absolutely ridiculous.

Bear Choice worked out quite well for me last year.

I was thinking about getting Golden Bear, but I’ll probably start off with Traditional and see if its sufficient.

You must pack a mighty appetite O_O

LOL yeah I do, but its because I do a lot of sports and physical activity. I can’t go wrong with Golden Bear since its unlimited, but assuming all or most of my (major) meals would come from the dining halls, the Traditional gives you 14 meals per week. If I ate breakfast, lunch and dinner in the dining halls, I’d be done in 5 days and have to buy everything for the weekends (I hear food is expensive in Ithaca?)…which would probably end up being more expensive at the end of the year than if I had just spent the $500 or so difference between Traditional and Golden.

Meh, I dunno yet lol. On a side note, anyone else excited to be doing something like picking meal plans? It seems small, but its the small things that get me excited.

I’m also used to 3 meals a day at home and didnt understand how 14 meals/week would be enough before I got here, but it really is sufficient. I eat lunch and dinner in the dining hall (or I use BRBs if I’m in a rush) and eat cereal in my room for breakfast (alternatively, you could use your BRBs to grab breakfast before class). Plus, on the weekend you’ll probably just get brunch unless you’re an early riser. You could start off with Golden Bear if you really want to, but I think you’ll find that unlimited dining hall meals isn’t necessary.

And yeah haha, even something small like picking meal plans can be exciting  It was for me last year!

Bear Choice seems fine. I didn’t realize why anyone would want/need 14 meals a week, but

that actually makes sense.

I’m dieing to get the packet of info from them. I’m guessing it comes next week. Yeah, I’m excited. Oh, and we get “@cornell.edu” (yeah, that’s right, [Cornell…ever heard of it?](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBUz4RnoWSM)) email addresses next week. SCORE!

Careful now. Don’t let your inner 'nard dog out too much or else you will find yourself right back in Central PA working for a paper company.

Yeah, Scranton sucks. But Erin’s pretty hot.
