Meal Swipes

Okay, I'm finally paying the price (literally) of getting 19P this year. I didn't know 19P didn't cover meals in Ackerman until I got here...and then I was late in downgrading for this quarter and therefore it's 19 meals a week again, which is not something I can finish. I have a lot of classes on campus so therefore I have to eat at Ackerman.

Besides buffalo wings, pizza, and drinks from BCaf, is there anything else I can do with these swipes that perhaps can save some money? I've heard a bit about getting drinks in packs with 12 swipes as well as coupons for Ackerman but don't know much about either.

I'm totally just going to get 11 from now on...

You can get a meal coupon if you want to eat at Ackerman. But one swipe would get you only $1-2 meal voucher. :D

if you eat breakfast in the morning, you should take the blue bag we all got at the beginning of the year and make a sack lunch to take with you to campus. this will get you out of ackerman for lunch and take care of some of your swipes...

downgrade for spring quarter now?

I know that they sold drink in packs at the end of fall quarter, dunno if it's available throughout the quarter

It seems to be cheaper if you purchase meals with BruinCard EasyPay rather than buying a big meal plan?
based off the prices of meal plans for non-residents, the price per meal is like $8 - $10 (assuming it's for 10 weeks)
but if you use EasyPay it's [url=<a href="http://uclahousing.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/uclahousing.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=820%5D$6.50">http://uclahousing.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/uclahousing.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=820]$6.50</a> for lunch, $7.75 for dinner/url

I know plenty of people who make it back up to campus in an hour for quick lunches. It means eating at Covel or De Neve usually, and you have to be willing to go up the hill, but you really don't have to eat lunch in Ackerman. It's a solution anyways.

but dining halls close at 2. so the hours arent exactly the best

i have 19p and i run out by 9th week. those smoothies are awesome.

I swipe for water bottles a lot, which saves me from having to carry the 24-packs from Ralphs all the time. You could just get lunches and put them in lunch sacks or ziplock bags for later.

Thanks for the quick responses!

I am probably going to do a mixture of all of those things. How do you get meal vouchers? Also, what exactly can you put into sack lunches? I'm thinking muffins and fruit, but is there a way to put in other food?

We can't downgrade until March 1st, I think, for spring quarter.

If you have airtight containers (depending on how big they are), you can put in the things from Rendevous and sandwiches. Salads are already in a container, but they're pretty big to be carrying around. I usually just bring along a muffin and fruit.

Another thing you can do (if you have a fridge) is get a Rendevous burrito the night before, stick it in your fridge, buy some tin foil, and then the next morning you can wrap it up and take it with you. Instant lunch.

haha. "Instant Lunch" ;)
