Meaning of the Course Catalog

I received an "Academic catalog" in the mail today from Carleton. The logical side of me says that this probably means nothing, but I would really like to believe that it is a subtle hint. (why send me a course catalog if i would have no opportunity to use it?)

Am I over-thinking this?

nevermind...I just found out that they send one to everybody...I am an idiot

Did you apply RD?

I haven't gotten an academic catalog from them. =/
Though yeah, it seems like a waste of money to send them to everyone who already applied and haven't gotten an acceptance yet, considering they're going to reject or wait-list most of us.

it might seem like a huge cost to send one to everybody that applies, especially because there is no application fee. i wouldn't think too much of it - just relax man :) this might seem out of place, but anxiety doesn't help much - everything always seem to work itself out.

I got one too!!! It came all the way to india! Normally I wouldn't think much of this but would they send a catalogue free and pay 10$ for postage unless they wanted me to come?!?

I dunno...I've gotten course catalogues from colleges I haven't applied to yet. It seemed like those colleges sent one to everyone who'd visited/signed up for their mailing lists. But who knows? It can't be a bad sign. :)

Those catalogs are basically just for prospective students to ooh and aah over. I think few current students these days actually have a the hard copy and just look up the descriptions online before registration. So yeah, it is pretty wasteful to ship these thick catalogs all over, but it's at least planned waste--you guys are supposed to see them and feel connected to Carleton. Or something.

As GuyWithFunnyHat says they sent it to everyone. I think one of the reasons is to keep Carleton's name in your mind. Hearing the name will make you more likely to be thinking of it when your acceptances come if you get in.

I think that's a stupid thing to do, for environmental reasons.

But on the other hand, I wouldnt mind getting a catalog. :P

I definitely agree that it's a waste. The thick book with tiny 8 fts writings inside without any pretty pictures did not make me go oooh and aaahhhh. I did, however, got my acceptance letter shortly after receiving this catalogue, and I treasure it now.

Don't crush my dreams! I got a course catalog.... I just know this means I'm accepted..... please?

No.....don't..... don't. X( It's dead. Yeah.

Seriously though, I don't think it means anything except that they want you to apply so they can maybe reject you and increase their selectivity.....
