Meaningful Winter Break Programs

First of all I was unsure which part of the forum to post this question as specific categories didnt quite seem applicable.

Recently I have been brainstorming about how I'd like to spend my time over Winter Break. In the past I have worked, taken classes, and done the obvious-do nothing. This year, I'm hoping to do something beneficial...from an intellectual standpoint. I am a Mechanical Engineering major at UW Madison focusing on the thermal sciences; however, this experience need not be restricted to this area. I also have strong interests in finance and entrepreneurship.

I am aware that I am not giving much direction for your recommendations to be based upon - this is somewhat intentional. What programs are out there which focus on furthering the development of college srudents over the time abundant spring break period which we ever so frequently waste by drinking or working menial, unimportant jobs for dissatisfactory wages.

Note that volunteering abroad is not exactly what I am looking for.

Thanks,

I don’t think what you’re looking for exists. I recommend following classes from OpenCourseWare universities; they’re free and very high quality. It’s not really something you can list on your resume, but it will definitely deepen your understanding of your field or anything else you want to explore.
