Mechanical Eng --> Embedded systems

Hi guys!

Ive got this question. I am currently a student in Prague CTU faculty of mechanical engineering, second year. Now Im writing because I need to ask a question. I am studying Theoretical fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering, so its very broad, has basicly all the core subjects like Mechanics, Maths, Physics, Geometry, Chemistry etc. but im somehow missing something electrical. We can of course apply for some classes from the faculty of electrical engineering but its not too easy. Our faculty is quite conservative and they are not to open on having other subjects from other faculties. But to the problem. If I manage to complete my bachelor I have the chance to finish my masters(if Id stay) in a lot of paths (Mechatronics, Control engineering, Biomechanics etc.) which is great, but I would really like to work on embedded systems, robotics and artificial intelligence. Do you think if I would finish of in Mechatronics or Control engineering I would have the chance to work on embedded systems? Or should I rather transfer to EE while im still in my bachelors? Or maybe finish my bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and my masters on EE faculty? Thanks for the advice

You should transfer to EE, CE or CS.

ME could be involved in machinery design for manufacturing or the design of e.g. robotics. But EE, CE and CS are really what deal with “what to use embedded systems for?” or “how to design embedded systems?” or “control engineering” type of questions, because what makes a system embedded is the use of electronics, computers and software to control something.

Embedded systems is also a terribly broad term. So you might want to specify, what’s it in “embedded systems” that you’re interested in?
