I'm a sophomore here at UW and I'm planning on applying for mechanical engineering for next year. My grades are solid for the UW and I'm not really worried about them. What I am worried about is my transfer stuff. When I was in high school I concurrently took classes at the local junior college in order to complete some graduation requirements. The problem is I didn't think I had to take these classes too seriously because my high school only looked at completion, not GPA for college courses, so my grades on that junior college transcript are not good at all (under 3.0). My question is, will the mechanical engineering department hold that strongly against me, or do they just require transfer grades as kind of a formality? Thanks any help is appreciated.

Also, quick side note; does the ME department consider letters of recommendation for admission?
