I have been accepted to ME at A&M and Computer Science at UT Austin. ME was my first choice but Austin admitted me for my second choice. But still I would love to go to UT AUSTIN. So how is the computer science program at UT AUSTIN and how hard is it to get into the program especially as an International Student. And what do u gys think i should choose. I am inclined towards A&M but i also have Austin in mind.
So give me any suggestion you can. Thanks

Both cost the same ? UT-Austin is better and has renowned program.

I would choose A&M! Mechanical engineering there is amazing! Ut Austin’s comp sci is okay, but I’m also an international student and trying to decide between a&m and Dartmouth!

Uts comp sci program is more than “ok”. It’s number 8 in the country and regularly sends kids to Top industry placements and grad school placements. It depends on what you want to do OP. do you want to be an engineer? Or work in computer science. They are different types of career paths.

^This. Even if UT is a better school and its comp sci is prestigious, it is better to get a degree in a field that you will be happy with. If you prefer ME over comp sci, you should definitely choose ME at A&M (although UT is good at ME too!). I think you should forget the school rankings and just look at which field you would rather get a degree in.

I completely agree with you SadHippo!!! If you have true passion in engineering then it’s obvious, go to A&M! You will be soo much happier! :)

Thanks guys… I think i am gonna go for A&M ME mainly cuz I would be able to afford it on my own …either by scholarship or by CORE…BUT if UT gave me some scholarship I would not be abele to chose…cuz I have so much interest in both mech engineering and compt science…whatever i chose i am going to wonder in future…what would have happend if i had chose the other path…

No you won’t!! Especially bc engineering is a growing field! Don’t worry! :)

yea well I hope so…engineering will be an interesting field…its just that i love both engineering and cmputer field…just hate the sitting in the office part of computer…

You’re answering your own question! Seems like you like engineering better.

haha yea it is…really intersting …well i think i m over thinking it…Bt UT is a very good option…that may b the reason i m thinkin too much…

Dude, so is A&M…but it’s whatever you wanna do. I thought you really wanted to do engineering! Plus, you live in Texas and engineering degree from a&m will get you a job anywhere. By that I mean it will be super easy to find a job

well…i dont wanna be stuck in texas or Us by any means…I HAve a dream to work around the globe (its a high dream ) …so I THINK UT has way higher reputation globally than A&M does… dont u think so ?

Hi everyone,

I know this is someone else’s thread abt their decision but I really need some opinions, please. Which do you think is a better choice between Carnegie Mellon Qatar for Computer Science and NUS (National University of Singapore) for Mechanical Engg. I’ve got a 25% scholarship at CMUQ. For the rest, I’ve applied for interest free loans from qatar foundation. At NUS, I’m still waiting for their scholarship decision. I’m applying for their financial aid in the mean time. There too, ill probably have to sign some kind of bond. Which do you think is a better university, education wise? And which country do you think will have better, more interesting employment options?

I know the SCS at CMU Pittsburgh is very highly regarded but will the Qatar Campus have the same quality of education, and will I have the same (kind of) opportunities?

P.S. I’m an international student.

Thanks!

@picerulz Well we know some about UNIVERSITIES IN TEXAS, USA…as we are applying or going to one the UNIVERSITIES there so we would not be of much help to you …at least not me…but you should check out US news world ranking and see if these universities are there…and look for more info

[World’s Best Universities; Top 400 Universities in the World | US News](http://www.usnews.com/education/worlds-best-universities-rankings/top-400-universities-in-the-world)

Hey Immanjil… Well my mom was talking to my uncle who lives in Dubai and she mentioned a&m and ut and he had never hear of ut… Only a&m. I think both schools are known around the world. So you don’t have to worry about that but I was saying specifically in Texas they like a&m better …

Well i think so too…but i was just looking into the world ranking my self dat i suggested to another student…and ut austin is on 68 while A&M is on 168…haha …well i do think these rankings and difference would not be much though…

The ranking that matters for you is engineering:

[Top Engineering Colleges & Best Engineering Schools in USA](<a href=“Web Page Under Construction”>Web Page Under Construction)

It makes little difference whether you attend UT or A&M for engineering.

Perazziam is right! Wait Immanjil are you gonna be a freshman or transfer student

Welll i get what both of u are saying … Its just a small glitch that i was pointing out… Any ways as an international student i hAve 0% chance of scholarship at ut… And at A&M i still have a chance (i m waiting for it) or i could go for Core cadet program… So the decision is simple for me …:)
