Mechanical Engineering vs. Engineering Science

I just got accepted into UCSD as an Engineering Science major. Mechanical Engineering was my first choice of major, but I had to pick a second choice since Mech. is impacted. Are there any current UCSD students out there than can help explain the differences between the Mechanical and Engineering Science programs?

Thanks!

Based on what it says on the website, I get the impression that you can structure your electives to resemble the ME program. Am I way off base here?

basically you can turn an engineering sciences major into a mechanical/aerospace/structural engineering major, based on what technical electives you take. the only downside really, is that your degree will say “engineering sciences” which doesn’t necessarily look as good to employers as “mechanical engineering”. you will basically need to prove your credentials (based on the classes that you take) at every job interview.

Thanks for the response! Do you know how hard it would be to switch into ME from ES?
