mechanical vs electrical engineering

hi i plan on applying to cooper union for engineering, but i wanted to know whether to choose electrical or mechanical engineering. i would like to know what the differences are in terms of
1) what you do
2) job prospects and salary.
suppose you want to make a cell phone or computer - what parts would an electrical engineer be responsible for and what parts would a mechanical engineer do?

also, if i dont end up in cooper, i would also apply to city college (cuny system) for engineering. any idea on how their program is and whether its good or not? also, is this the best cuny engineering program?

also, if either of those options dont work, i am a national merit semifinalist (probably going to be a finalist) so i can get full tuition/full ride to many colleges. of those that offer such scholarships, any idea which one has a good engineering program?

You have lots of time to decide MechE vs EE. Most freshman courses are the same. But you are running short on time for college apps.

Look into Northeastern in Boston. Their full tuition scholarship for NMF was one of the best we found. (Remaining room/board/etc would be approx $15K/yr).
