If one plans to be a psychiatrist, how prestigious of a med school must he attend to land a job? Does prestige of med schools even matter that much?

Med school prestige doesn’t matter a whit.

all med schools are on the same level academically even johns hopkins and harvard

Med school is, well, med school. Getting into any med school is difficult, let alone Harvard and JHU. Prestige of a med school doesn’t matter all too much.

there have been numerous threads on the subject of med school prestige; I suggest you do a search. The bottom line though is that it only really matters if you plan on doing things like pursue a career in academia or in public policy. psychiatry is also one of the least competitive specialties to get in to.

in fact, if you speak English as your first language, you will be a shoo-in for a good residency in psychiatry.

hg, LOL.

Ot: How is SA treating you? Still liking the school?

Do well on boards, get a good residency…golden.

great first year, 4.0, #1 in class(tied with a few others though). Turned out to be a perfect fit. tell your daughter to come back to Texas, the cost/benefit ratio is tough to beat.

Thanks. Sounds like good advice. I’ll pass it along. I’ve been hearing good things about SA. Say hi to hubbell’sdad for me.
