Ill give you a little background on myself and explain my problem. Well im a junior in highschool and im taking courses at my local college. Im doing this because i hate being told what to do, i practically live my own life now and im loving it. But uh i hardly show up to class simply because i hate it and because i know i can afford to, school is easy for me ive gotten pretty much straight A's. The thing is i hate school i can't stand having assignments due. I recently told myself that i wanted to move to europe and just work at restaraunts and move around different countries as a fun way to experience different cultures and live life. I wouldnt have to go to school cuz i sure do hate it. But within the past year ive found a passion for drugs. I particulary enjoy doing them and experiencing new ones all the time its like a whole new world to me. I enjoy meeting new people, hearing others oppinions, or just going to parties. I really enjoy life also so i leave a few days out of the week where i stay totally sober to experience things as they should be. When ive got nothing to do during the night though i sit on my computer for hours and research. How something so incredibly small can have such a huge effect fascinates me. I love to learn about otc drugs, illegal drugs, prescription drugs anything that alters the body. I want to try fasting sometime soon to see what its effects are like, im taking yoga soon, and would like to learn meditaion. Anything that alters the mind is just incredible. Its an amazing machine and wanna know everything about it. Sometimes i just go into my local pharmecy and look at the back of the boxes haha to understand what each drug does to the body and sometimes i just talk to the guy there to hear his oppinions on everything. Its intresting how some produce effects all the time and some only work a few days of the week no matter how much you take. I like to know which drugs effect which neurons i love it all. I could research forever theres always something new to learn its all amazing. Well now i thought id like to make a career in this. So ive got my will to learn and love for drugs but my hate for school. So i wonder how this could all work out considering i know theres many years to be spent in school. Ive tried researching it but i cant seem to find what i want to know. I dont know exactly what i want to do but i want to deal with drugs. I also want to know how there made i think its a shame that i have to put my life into the hands of someone i dont know. I would really like drug awareness, its ridiculous how much effort the government puts towards not doing drugs yet nothing for safe drug use because most people do them anyways. I thought at first i would want to become a pharmacist. But all i know is they just fill prescriptions. I know that Ecstasy was discovered as someone spent their days mixing chemicals trying to make something that could be used for medicinal purposes. That sounds like fun. Who are they people that have thousaunds of test subjects and test different drugs on them to see the effects. That sounds like fun. I also like the idea of spreading drug awareness. The thing is i dont know what any of these careers are or the slightest clue on what kind of courses or actions im going to need to take to pursure these careers. I dont really know what i want and i dont know who can help me. Well hopefully someone can put togethor my rambling and understand what im asking. I thought that background information would be helpful with your guys responses or any advice you can give to me but maybe it wasnt, still hopefully someone can help me out. Thanks a ton. Anything that needs clarifying please feel free to ask

The first thing I have to say is that you’re going to have to start going to classes at some point. You can get through a decent amount of classes without going, but there will be some where attendance is mandatory. It might not be as bad as you think though. Right now you’re probably taking more general education type classes… major intensive stuff is usually A LOT more interesting! You do have to rely on getting a good professor though. Also while in school, you probably shouldn’t spend so much time in an altered state. The long term effects of the stuff you’re taking is probably not well known, so try not to cripple yourself too soon.

From what I can tell, a bachelor’s degree won’t be enough for you. A pharmD or phD seems like the best route. pharmDs can do a lot more than fill rx, just the ones you see choose not to ;). One of my friends talked about compounding (mixing chemicals). You can also go into industry and work for a pharmaceutical company for drug development.

For a phD, look at programs in biochemistry, organic chemistry, pharmacology, pharmakinetics, any of the pharm prefixes! The faculty you’ll find in biochemistry should be crosslisted with the pharm program, otherwise they will be studying biological systems and proteins.

If you can google around and find a person with the job you want, look at their resume/curiculum vitae and see what kind of training they had. Also, since you’ve already made friends with your local pharmacist, ask them what other options they or their classmates had besides retail.

Decicatriz,

You need to concentrate on graduating high school and getting into a good college. From there, take lots of biology, chemistry, and math classes. Try to get into a research lab during college or high school to see if you like doing research. This will tell you if you should go to grad school or not. you may also want to work in a clinic to see if you like that stuff. You also need to start attending classes. You should try to get good grades in college too, since you will need decent grades to get into grad/professional school.

You do not need to decide now what you want to do as a career until you get older. Trust me, you will change your mind many times. I intended to be a physician when I was your age. In college I fell in love with neuroscience, and I was sure that I wanted to do research in this field. After taking time off after college, I decided that I hate neuroscience research and I decided to research something else. Most people have stories similar to mine, and many are a lot more extreme. You might take a business class in college, and decide you want to do business.

Just concentrate on finishing high school, getting into a good college and getting good grades in college. I would explore a lot of career paths such as research, medicine, etc. Through these experiences you can decide what you want to do as a career.

Like the previous poster said, I would also try to lay off the drugs since they may produce long term negative effects.

seriously, if I were a PI I wouldn’t want you in my lab.

Pharmacists can work anywhere, be it community (retail), clinical (hospital), academia, research, or industry. The degree is now expanding into a number of different avenues that continue to grow considering the wide gap in the medical professions that has not been filled by any particular branch.
