There were NYU vs. BU threads in the NYU section, but I wanted a more diverse opinion. I really need help choosing a school! I've listed some pros and cons, but I still can't decide. My choices are:

Boston U: 7-year med program, good med school, nice city, no scholarship

NYU: scholarship, close to home, nice city, no campus, no guaranteed med school

Rutgers: full scholarship, 7-year med program, close to home, Newark = not very safe

Penn State: 6-year med program, State College very rural for first two years, lack of diversity outside the program and within the program

Tufts: don't know much about it

I'm also on the waiting list for Brown, Stanford, and Columbia, but I still need to choose from the above five first before May 1.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I know that Boston U's 7-year med program is incredibly rigorous and very difficult to get into. Congrats on that!

I can only really comment on NYU and BU, as those are the only schools I've done any significant research on.

If you do narrow it down to NYU and BU, I can say this: 4-year pre-med at NYU would be a more relaxed (compared to BU) way to get your undergrad degree. I don't know how large a scholarship you received to NYU, but if it's large enough to save money on a portion of med-school after undergrad, then consider NYU. BU's program will be more rigorous, competitive, and condensed. Also, if you are seriously considering that, be POSITIVE that is the profession for you; there's not much room to change your mind once you begin that program.

For what it's worth, I loved the NYU campus, people, etc. I applied as a transfer to Boston University as well, but NYU was superior in my eyes in nearly every way, as far as the "feel" of the campuses went, as well as the student body. I haven't seen Penn State or Rutgers, so I can't really offer any opinion there.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful; good luck!

Thanks so much! Right now, it is pretty much a choice between NYU and BU. I'm sure that I want to do medicine, and I had thought that the BU program would be an easier route because of the guaranteed med school. However, lately, I've been hearing that NYU's premed students have a 99% chance of getting into med school with an MCAT score of 30 and GPA 3.5. Is this true? I'll be visiting both schools soon to see the stuff outside of academics.
