Does anyone know what the acceptance rate into Iowa's Carver College of Medicine is for Iowa residents who completed their undergrad degree at the University of Iowa? I know that about two-thirds of all of the seats in Carver are reserved for Iowa residents.

Excellent question and very unlikely that you’ll get a definitive answer here. Contact admissions and they’ll tell you. A lame suggestion but the public universities are very forthcoming with this stuff.

Thanks, man. I want to go to med school someday, and I’m trying to decide if I should go to Iowa or if I should go to a smaller, private school to study pre-med. I love University of Iowa (I visited the campus last week and I was impressed, I also live less than an hour away), but my worry is that if I studied pre-med there and then later applied to their med school, I would be rejected, and that would suck. Going to a school for four years, and then being told you can’t come back for another four years would be terrible.

Yeah, you might pop over to the pre-med forum on CC as it goes on ad nauseum about the ins and outs of med school acceptance. I am no expert, believe me, but my understanding is that while your chances at Carver are better because you’re an IA resident, they are no better because of Univ Iowa undergrad. But do check me on that - it’s not gospel.
