How are the pre-med courses/professors at Vandy? Also, how is the med school placement rate there?

any advice guys?

"Approximately 70% of Vanderbilt's pre-med students are enrolled in medical school within 1 year of their graduation."

thats not so good huh compared with many other top colleges who exceed 80% even Notre Dame that has over 80% going to med school is legit and doesnt even have a med school. just my input thats all.

I really feel it is difficult to determine a school's placement success from statistics. At one of the admission sessions we attended, we were told that Vanderbilt does not discourage anyone from applying to medical school if they are interested in that pursuit. However, we have heard that there are some institutions that only encourage their top candidates to apply. I don't know if this is valid or not, but it is worth considering if you are only looking at percentages. I personally feel it depends on the individual....if you complete your pre-med requirements, have a high GPA, and do well on the MCAT, you shouldn't have a problem being admitted to medical school. Good luck!

i talked to the associate dean of admissions when i was trying to decide whether to enroll or not and he told me that they place no limitations on students who want to apply to med school (read: they don't refuse recommendations to students they think won't make it, as many other schools do). This is reflected in the difference between the number for the whole being only 70% and the number for those with at least a 30 MCAT and a 3.85, which is more like 85%. 85% puts the acceptance rate right up there with other prestigious schools.

but 3.85!! ridiculous. that sounds too hard. that should be like 95% acceptance rate. It seems really tough at vandy

its not 3.85, it more like 3.2

thats ridiculous, no one is accurate with this vandy MEd school acceptance rate. I mean its VANDERBILT, really amazing ugrad experieence and academics.

at vanderbilt, do you have to declare that you are pursuing a premed track? It seems like you only need to take the courses and that's it.

oh, i'm sorry. i meant 3.5. i guess i just had that 85% number stuck in my head. apologies.

Vanderbilt's reported acceptance rates may not be high, but an alluring feature of attending Vanderbilt is the ability to get into Vanderbilt Medical School after second year.

but only about 12 people get that
